Wife and I had our AB female breed to a breeder from LeMars, Ia by the name of Reba Pry. We chose this male due to size, temperament and pedigree. However, not known to us until after the litter was born, the male carries a genetic defect of Inguinal Hernias. Upon our vet noticing this in all 6 pups, he contacted another Vet from her area and that Vet explained that she had advised Ms. Pry over 3 years ago of this ongoing issue passed through her male and should NOT be breeding him. Knowing that, she is still breeding him and there isnt anything that can be done. I have called, txted and emailed her and she wont reply. We did place the pups in loving home that will spay/neuter but anyone looking for a stud dog in that area....please beware.

Your female is likely also implicated if all six puppies were affected.  Vets are not geneticist and all inguinal hernias are not genetic but six for six suggest both the sire and dam were involved in any genetic cause.  Inbreeding or line breeding can also increase the probability of genetic faults such as this surfacing .. likely the sire was part of the cause of the six pups having inguinal hernias but I am fairly confident he didn't do it without the mother also carrying the defect in her X contribution if all six pups had the problem.

were you there witnessing the birth of the pups to make sure the mom didn't pull too much on their umbilical cords?? That can also cause hernias.

Ask your vet to show you the journal, publication showing is genetic..anything that vets are ignorant about, say is genetic...

And if is genetic, like Bubalooo said, your female is culpable too, is the combination of both..good luck
