I'm not involved with this breed, so I don't really have a useful opinion.  I do think they are pretty cute, they look rather st. bernard-ish to me.

Would like to see pics of your dogs.

Longhairs are considered culls. And are fine for pets if they are spayed and neutered. The long coat gene is not to be desired at all.
I've seen long coats before and the all have some Johnson dogs in their background. Johnson was known for crossing to St Bernards. So it's clear where these genes come from. I've even see a hog catching long coat who belonged to a judge.
Can you post photos and the pedigree. I might be able to point out where the long coat came from.

I'd love to see a pic of a longhaired American Bulldog, can't imagine what it would look like.

That last pic is just SO adorable!!  [squee!]

dragonfry, as you've no doubt noticed, the [img] url[img] coding does not work for posting pictures on this site There is a tutorial here  http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/forum.html?f=tutorials  on how to do it. It's qluite a bit more complicated than most sites, especially if you are uploading a photo from your computer.

I recently acquired a really  nice female Am bulldog pup for home companion/protection.  so have been researching more about the breed standard, They are not supposed to be long haired according to that. but I'm sure it can/does pop up in some lines.

Very odd, never seen any long haired American Bulldogs before. I'm with CMills, I thought that the only acceptable ones were short. I didn't even know that they produced longs, but I've never studied up on them.
