Is there a book on gsd bloodlines in America that describes the strengths and weaknesses of those bloodlines? I'm not sure how to research the best choices for breeding my bitch, so that I don't get a pairing that leads to weak temperment or fading color, etc. I have at least a year to "get educated." (I understand that in Germany, they have "breed wardens" to help novices.) M**3

BTW I searched the message list on this subject and only came accross some comments comparing Triumph's Gucci and Utz vom Hirschel. M**3

You may want to speak to some local breeders and check out the Urma Books to see what bloodlines are being used to compliment the bloodlines that you have. What bloodlines do you have???

Father is Esto von Noort and mother is Zori v. Jerisa (Romeo v. Pallas Athene daughter). I guess this year's Urma book would have a nice progeny group for Erasmus. Then it's a hunt for something similar in the U.S. I just thought there might be some classic "disasters" that I should avoid. There are some Timo vom Berrekasten sons in my area, some sable and some not. I read once that a "sable" in the bloodline strengthened color. I'm more interested in good, general health and a confident temperment. I had met Bosse Nyman from Triumph's kennel a while back (before his death) and liked his dogs. Triumph's Gucci is in the mid-West, but old so he may not be at stud next year.
