I came across this website www.freewebs.com/medontekennels/shelby.htm and I wonder why on earth they want to breed a Malinois to a German Shepherd?! What is the point?

After going to this website all I can do is laugh.   The word moron keeps flashing before my eyes.

Why not email them and ask?  I did try, but the mail bounced.  Probably someone at Schutzhund Club told them the Mali is very talented and someone else told them that in Belgium/Holland/ France or wherever, Mali x GSD were the ultimate all round working dog, throw in a touch of sentiment because they love their dogs and a couple of admirers saying they would love a pup from Shelby and Prince and there you go - perfect excuse for a litter of crossbreeds!

Probably not bad or unkind folk, just uneducated.

I know a trainer of police dogs, he has started using the Malinois.   They are great dogs.  I just thought the website was a bit off.  I asked myself the same question, why?   Just sounds like another peakapoodle.  I dont favor crossbreeding as a business which it what they are doing.

Probably because Prince is so "pertective" (sorry, could not resist LOL)

I know there is some humour in this, and perhaps should be in this case. But, many of us remember the controvery caused by the S.V.'s Dr. Helmut Raiser when he publicly suggested the very same thing. His goal is/was to restore the working ability of the GSD. Needless to say, Dr. Raiser is quite outspoken regarding his opinions about this matter and this caused his fallout with the S.V..

Although I am strictly a fan of the GSD, I must say that a well-bred Malinois is a facinating dog that is still bred for working ability rather than for conformation to the flavour of the day. I wonder myself how Dr. Raiser is doing with his new venture, S.V. 2000? Does anyone have information other than what can be found on the web?

Regards,

Bob-O

Some people seem to think the grass is always greener on the othe side. As one who has owned and worked mals they as a breed have their own virtues and also problems.  They also can have alot of nerve issues that few people ever discuss.
