The way to truly protect yourself from Yorkie Scams is to not buy off the net.  You need to go to a breeder and pick your own pup.  Don't let the breeder just hand you a puppy.  I did that--and the dog was truly a behavior problem.  She ate her own and my other Yorkie's poop despite training attempts and prescription meds.  She was very aggressive toward the older but much smaller Yorkie--I had to watch them constantly, she developed a recessed vulva, and she was very destructive, hyperactive and nervous.  So I contacted the breeder--and the game they play is this--"oh sure, I will take the dog back--no problem and give you a full refund".  But they only say that thinking you are so attached to the pup that returning the dog is the last thing on your mind.  But I agreed to return the pup for a refund and the acting out from the breeder began but I cut all of that short to remind the breeder that the dog was AKC registered under HER bloodlilne.  The breeder tried to block the return of the dog and play games with me.  But I stood my ground and returned the dog and got a refund.  I purchased the dog for breeding but would have had to get her an expensive surgery to correct the inverted vulva in order for her to mate.  Lesson learned?  Don't let the breeder choose your dog.  After doing some research I wondered if that dog had been inbred.  I know Yorkies are active but this dog was truly out of control and untrainable.  Something was wrong.

Visit a breeder and look at the pups but don't buy one.  Read up on the breed and learn what to look for in a pup.  If you see people when you are out in public that are Yorkie owners, stop them and talk to them about their experience with the breed and who their breeder was.  Most Yorkie owners love to talk about their dogs.  Do not buy a dog on-line!  Many times, the picture that you see is not the dog you get.
