I am new to the breed and know my girls strong and weak points from what people have told me. I know what I like and dislike about certain dogs, but how would one without a mentor go about learning how to take the written standard and apply it to a dog? I've been looking at dogs on the database and seeing several that I like but can't really pick them apart, not to be mean mind you, just to learn whats correct. Can anyone give me any suggestions? Thanks in advance for any help.

Sheena,
I consider myself a hardcore breed geek. I was mystified for years as to how a judge saw what they said they saw in a particular dog. Years ago I purchased a series of video tapes from Canine Training Systems which may still be available that explains in some detail how to look at components of structure and movement. From there it is a matter of practice. Look at every dog you see evaluating the whole picture and each part and how they affect each other. Best Wishes, Jonah
