My neighbors have a house with a porch that is built up like a deck. They can see everything in my yard. Not that I am doing anything but I bought this place for privacy and then they built that house there. I am thinking of doing TALL bamboo. I have researched it and found about many different kinds and sizes, Anyone have any experience they would share? Thanks in advance.

Yes, my friends live on the bottom of a hill and their neighbors planted some bamboo. It does make a great privacy fence over a relatively short time. However, there are some giant (Japanese ?) varieties) that can be super invasive... the invasiveness factor depends on your climate. With our winters that factor gets inhibited. Warmer climates, more problems.
So be smart about it, and it works great. Or you can contribute to a natural wild flora and fauna dilemma.

before planting the bamboo, check into creating some barriers so that you can contain the spread of it. once it gets started it grows like a weed and is very difficult to control.
i planted some years ago and after a year of trying to dig it up, spray it, burn it.....i finally rented a guy with a backhoe to dig it up.......

Thanks for that info. One of the websites I was on had a link for barrier control--I didn't check it out but will have to go back and do so. Also thanks for your link--I looked at it but will have to read it more throughly. Guess I didn't think about that.
Any other ideas for tall privacy screening? Thanks again in advance.

Lots of bamboo used here and it takes major control efforts. It is as bas at spreading and taking over as english ivy or kudzu! :-) You will have to keep an active eye on it with weekly inspection. Major expense to address, once it gets out of hand.

OK thanks to Kim, Beetree and Mystere for your help and comments. I especially thank Kim for the link and pics you provided. I went there and then to two ads and have found a much better solution and cheaper then bamboo. Not rich so I am going to go ahead and order a couple of trees this week so I can get them in the ground in the main place and get them going. And then get a few more next month. The ones I picked--forgot the name already--grow over 40 ft tall, drought resistent and once they are established are maintenance free. Just what I was looking for. Also full sun and grows in any kind of soil. Sure glad I thought of coming on here. Guess had I been thinking I could have googled stuff and come up with it, DUH.................always nice to have a little help.
