New Member here and wanted to introduce myself, We are from Southwest Louisiana! Back in September we became the new owners of a  Female GSD pup named Sudlich Von Der Grenze  "Sable".
She is now 3 months old and......She is a handful to say the least, full of energy and never stops, I've owned Labradors for the last 15 years and never expected to get another inside dog once our old Lab passed on. I began working out of town quite a bit  so the wife and I talked it over and decided we would get another pup and the GSD was our choice. Hopefully to give her some added security while I'm away.
We located a litter and picked her out, We have been fairly successful in our crate & house training thus far but I've noticed her need for exercise has increased over the last few weeks because she is very rambunctious in the evenings when the wife or I get home. She loves playing with the Tug toys and chasing her ball ( which she returns with, for us to throw again).
I've been searching the web looking for Clubs or folks to train with but haven't had much success up to this point, we have been working on our obedience as much as possible.
Any tips, pointers or direction with training and/or clubs around Louisiana or east Texas would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the PDB. Cant make any recommendations,as i'm in illinois and not familiar w louisiana, but you might get more responses if you would let us know what your intentions are: pet, ipo, agility, combo of these, pers. protect, dock diving, herding, etc. what kind of training are you looking for?

Hello and welcome.

If you have got the pup as company / protection for your wife
while you are away, then you do need to take two things into
account:  One is that you do indeed need to find a Club or
individual Trainer, and quickly.  As a first-time (?) GSD owner
you have to take into account that this is definitely NOT a
Labrador !  Energy levels, both for puppies and life, are higher,
they are particularly intelligent and can get into trouble, if not
managed firmly and correctly.
Secondly, you don't say how much your wife is currently getting
involved in the dog's upbringing, can I suggest if you haven't already
factored it in that she needs to be VERY present in training and
care, in fact I'd say the PRIMARY person for your dog, if she is
going to be left with her while you go away working ?

Best of luck, she looks a lovely puppy.  Come back as often as you
like to ask any questions you have and to show us more pictures
as you get 'em, we LOVE photos on this board !       Linda.

I would have to say that our training intentions at this point have not gone further then a well mannered and obedient dog that has enough instincts to protect family. Obedience would be my first concern for the dogs safety and those around her. It could potentially leverage us into something more at some point after being involved with others familiar with IPO   . We have watched a various IPO & Shutzhund events online and were impressed at the dogs shown.
The wife & I are both very active in the feeding, bathing ,walking the pup and sharing the other responsibilities that come with ownership & we have both been working with her on obedience.

Thanks for the warm welcome!
