Do you need a licence to keep a number of dogs in Germany, is there any difference between keeping dogs in towns or countryside.Do you need a certain area of land to breed or establish a kennel.Any info would be appreciated

There is a "dog tax" for sure.

Each region (Bundesland) has different regulations, in addition to that each city has individual regulations and stipulations. If you want to set up a kennel you need to inquire with the city administration that you want to move to for zoning bylaws etc. There is also a dangerous dog law with special requirements for dogs over 40cm in height, again with some regional differences.
