do German Shepherd puppies tend to get darker or lighter when they get their adult coat? also does anyone have any before and after pictures? thanks

The showlines which are mostly saddlebacks start out with more black and get more red on their head, face, shoulders and thighs as they mature. Sables lighten as a pup then get darker as they get older. Some others such as blanket backs lighten very little, as do bi-colours. Blacks stay black for the most part.

Black & tan/red puppies get more tan as they age - this is not bloodline-specific. Sables darken.
