Can someone please explain the difference and why the KKL is only good for 1 year(I think that is what I read)?
I know the answer to this but is it better to get the KKL for life or just stop with the KKL?   And what happens after you get the KKl and you never go back for the KKL for life?

Thank you for your time

Hi Robin,
the KKl for one year allows you to breed with your dog during this year and the pups will get "red" papers. After that year you have to do the "Köeung auf Lebenszeit" otherwise you can´t breed with "red papers" any more. So it just depends on what you want.

Actually the KKL1a is good for two years and your dog should be resurveyed sometime in the second year, otherwise it is only good for that two year period.   The resurvey is not as extensive as the initial.   The dog is shown before the judge yes, but really just to make sure that everything is still the same.  The dog's protection test is also redone.

Keep in mind also that if you let the initial KKl expire, you must get another teporary one before you get the lifetime one. Also, I believe that it is possible to go for the lifetime breed survey and the judge decide to make it another two year, subject to his own discression. Someone please correct me if I am wrong, but this is my understanding. Theresa
