Greetings,
I was wondering and I would probably need some clarification from a more knowledgable person than I am with this.
In Germany right now do people do only IPO because it is kind of the same like SchH or do they both? I am cofused when I see a dog that has IPO III and other titles but no SchH? Is this common? I read that both IPO and SchH do the same 3 phases only the IPO is international rules, correct?
Now, let's say if the dog has IPO III but no SchH does that make him any less breedable or does it take away something from him because he doesn't have SchH or does it make him better because let's say the IPO is harder to attain?
Also, is it common in let's say Germany for a breeder to obtain IPO III and not even get the SchH and still have the dog be of top quality class and be compared like a dog that has SchH III?!
Is it NECESSARY to have both?
Thanks in advance and explaining all this to me would be a huge help!!!
Best Regards,

Yes and no. IPO was the international title recognized by the FCI and until several years ago, was a little different than SchH. SchH is the sport developed, practiced and governed by the SV in Germany for the GSD. IPO had all three retrieves in IPOI and no on leash healing. I believe the escape grip was done from a sit and with a verbal command if I remember correctly. Also, in the long bite exercise, no verbal communication to bring helper out of the blind or send him from the field. Tracking articles were smaller as well. SchH adapted the similar obedience rules several years ago and now no longer has "on leash" healing in SchHI and has both jumping retrieves. Memory is getting a little foggy so I may be missing a couple of other subtle differences. The AWDF Championship is an IPO event as well as the AWMA National Championship and the FCI World Championship. Essentially any country other than Germany (with the exception of the French who call it RCI) that has FCI mambership and involves breeds other than the GSD, calls it IPO.
