DGP. Yes, we've used it. It's a waste of money despite the near miraculous cures they propound on their Website. It may help some dogs but it did diddly for ours. In fact, it made both of the old dysplastic dogs we gave it to anorexic and these are dogs who jump for their food. Being an herbal preparation containing many, many different herbs it can be expected to change taste perception. Many drugs, pharmaceutical as well as natural, do that.

Despite the food aversion they showed after about 10 days we continued dosing them for a full four weeks in the hope of seeing some change in their mobility and gait. They lost some weight. Other than that, nada, nothing, nichts.

My advice is to get a presciption for Metacam from your vet and buy it online where it's less expensive.

wow, aqua. a good friend swears by it, and said other people also. i am glad i just bought 4 bottles of the crap!!!

by Aqua on 21 June 2009 - 01:06

That's how I got suckered. A friend swore by it. It is only in retrospect that I now realize she sees things that aren't really happening because so many other people say it's true. And really, when we have dogs in pain and discomfort we'll do nearly anything to make them feel better, and if a dog has a good day we can then say, "I put him on DGP and he jumped the ditch!".

I asked her later, after I tossed the stuff, whether she ever noticed her dogs acting strange, not wanting to eat and such, and she said, yes, isn't it wonderful, it helped them lose some weight, too!

It's not terribly expensive stuff so really, get it if you want to try it. Maybe your dogs will be some of the ones they'll put on their Website as miracle cures. Mine weren't. I didn't like what it did to my dogs. Snake oil really only works for the people who sell it.

Adequan Canine works great for all joint problems and pano.

by hexe on 21 June 2009 - 06:06

Al Garza, while Adequan *does* work well for many dogs with arthritis (primarily works for those affected with arthritic hips and stifles, not as effective in treating arthritis in elbows, toes, etc.), it has no pain reliever or anti-inflammatory effects, and as such does nothng for panosteitis, since pano is not a disorder that affects the joints.
