I have a 7 year old bitch Sasha who is pregnant with her 5th and last litter. She was bred on the 9th and 11th of May, this morning I noticed she was spotting, it's kind of a brownish/red discharge. I immediately took her to the vet, they did an ultrasound which confirmed she was pregnant (Yeah!), she was NOT running a temp, she has a decent appetite, good activity level, and her water consumption is normal. They also did a smear and found some white blood cells (not a huge amount) and a small amount of bacteria. The vet thought she might have an infection that is just beginning so she has put her on clavamox for 14 days.
I was extremely leery about putting her on antibiotics because several years ago, I had a different bitch (Alle, my Ghandi daughter) that developed a bladder infection at around 4 weeks of pregnancy (it was her 3rd litter) and she was put on antibiotics and she had a litter of 7 pups but 3 of the pups were born with their intestines outside their bodies (it was really heartbreaking). Now this bitch had 2 previous litters of pups in which all were healthy and the father of the 2nd and 3rd litter was the same, the only difference was the bladder infection and the antibiotics!
Now Sasha had spotting with her last litter also, it started around the 6th week of pregnancy and she had a nice healthy litter of 7 pups. I was wondering if anyone else has had this happen and what was the outcome? I'm worried about her aborting the pups, but I'd rather lose the litter, than her. Has anyone else had a pregnant bitch on antibiotics and were the pups ok? I have a check up for her in 2 weeks, I think it's going to be a very long 2 weeks! Thanks!

I had a bitch last year that was mated and she was still discharging a small amout of blood 2 weeks later, vet did a swab, said it was the end of her heat but put her on Clavulox for 10 days. She delivered 7 healthy puppies.
