Yesterday I took my 4 month old pup our for some socializing and was surprised twice.  As I was apporoaching a little league field a lady took notice of my solid black pup and as I walked up she said is that a GSD?  I gladly said "it sure is" and then she even asked before petting him.  As it turns out, she had two GSDs, one being a service dog,a dn she was familar with Schutzhund!  When her little boy walked up she asked me if it was okay for him to pet as well.  After talking a few minutes I moved to the bleachers to take a seat and watch for a while when a little girl (3-4yrs) saw my pup and said "BABY!"  This was my second surprise because her mother asked if it was okay for the little girl to pet him as well.  It was nice to meat polite people that asked first.  Of course I had to restrain my puppy so he didn't maul them, he really wanted to play. :)

We did a socialization hour last night at home depot...It was myself with one of my puppies (14 wk gsd) and my client and her 13 week old boxer pup.
Most people asked if the could pet the pups rather than just walking up and petting. A couple of people knew that my boy is a GSD, still others ask if he is a black lab....lol  Now mind you his ears are standing and he is a bi-color...... But than again most people thought the boxer was a pit bull because he is brindle....
Both did very well with the meet and greets and with all the distractions ie; fork lift , carts, and the flat carts loaded down and making all kinds of noises and passing about a foot away.....

socialization work is one of my favorite parts of having a puppy.

people are usually very friendly.

I'm working on BH with Sita and am asking people to roll down their car windows, open the door,  point and honk the horn.....its really funny to ask strangers........

I'm also asking gangs of kids to ride, skate, run and just generally be a mob next to her.....

I set up a complete bh test in the neighborhood the other day........it was really fun......of course it wasn't exaclty as formal as the real bh........and not exactly in the right order, but all the parts were there......

Its fun stuff ........

I also enjoy social hour, I meet so many nice people. When I know we are going into a store, I have a cape on Jami that has a patch that states in training on one side and a patch that states please ask before petting. Most of the time people are curious to what breed she is. I like to promote rescues, so I tell them she is a rescue. When there is a person that is knowledgable about the breed comes up and wants to talk about her I enjoy that too. She is big for a mal female and has a thinner face. One of my friends always jokes with me telling me she is a collie. Ha Ha  :)
Always,
Cee
