I can relate to the not riding a bike statement. In March I started getting ready for an AD and it had been decades since I'd been on a bicycle. At the beginning when I completed 1 mile I felt like I'd done something! (LOL). Didn't take long, though, and I was able to be on the bike when my dog got his AD in May.
Can't wait to hear of Goran's success!

What is involved in preparing a dog for AD?
by TessJ10 on 02 June 2009 - 13:06
It's a 20k trot, with 2 rest breaks and a brief obedience routine after the 20k is complete. 20k is approx. 12.5 miles.
During the breaks the judge will come and examine the dog's feet and general condition.
I've known people to not condition for it but to just say "oh, my dog is fit" and get the AD. I conditioned for it and my dog did it very easily; the non-conditioned did it but they were exhausted and looked it. Sadly, in my AD the judge did not ride along and there was some definite shirking of the distance by one of the riders when out of sight of the judge. The judge knew it - everybody knew it - but nothing was done. I'd worked too hard to be part of such nonsense and we did the full 20k. I used this link to condition my dog and he finished in fine style, trotting out ahead of the bike and ready for more:

It actually was fun, and I still bike with him to keep us both fit.

Best of luck Steve!
Tess, good on you for doing the work! isn't that the point of the title? I completely agree about people who cheat in an AD or anything else for that matter. Burns me but they always get theirs at some point. I just hope I hear about it when they do
I feel bad for the dogs though...

a good link for those who are not sure of the sequence and what to do, The last time i rode a bike i took it through a two meter wood fence, and it was not nice sitting in a bed of roses where i finshed up
Regards Goran he is fit in himself we walk twice a day and three times a week ScHh training, but the problem as we know is if the distance affects the pads that is the thing we do not know until the time, He sure is not overweight as you Guys know my feelings on dogs being overweight, it just does not happen here,
Now he has only once been trotting with a Cycle and that was last night when i took him to the home of the helper Marcel, he said he went okay after a few hundred meters, the dog got the hang of it and should be okay with the bike
Marcel has done dozens of AD's so he knows what is wanted, I would love to do it myself and although i am 69 16th of this month i could still walk or trot the 20kms but i do not want to start bike riding again, I often walk to the city 8 kms away or catch a bus there and walk back, home a few times walking both ways on a nice day So long as Goran enjoys himself he knows Marcel well, so that is no problem
As for anyone cheating i see no point in it, you only kid yourself and not do the dog justice, but it takes all sorts of people. and it will come back to them in time

If a dog has the HGH, the AD is not required. The HGH in and of itself is an endurance test.
