gouda

by gouda on 28 May 2009 - 18:05

Visited a club recently here in On. Canada.
I was relaxing with a coffee and watching the training.
All of a sudden the soft music that was playing in the club house was turned up so loud that it was annoying to the ears. I later learned the music was turned up becauese they did not want the visitors to hear the sqealing of the dogs, because of the elec.collars. I also learned this dog was shocked at full voltage for the length of the feild because he refused to do the send out. Okay here gang,do you agree or not on this. Is your pride more important then your dog?

I think electric collars should NOT be allowed.   I think it is abusive to the dog.   Who approved the use of these collars?

In a thread a few weeks' back, I read that after a competition, one of the dog owners was abusing his dog for not performing well.   Apparently, several people saw this happen and gave the owner some type of "shame-award."  ??  I kept thinking "Why was this man not reported to the ASPCA?"

I also don't  agree with that.   If you have to turn the E-collar up to high then there is something missing in the teaching of the send out, but then again that is the problem with some people they don't want to teach there dog.

I bet the E collar is used more often to teach the send out more then most  will admit to . I would not be surprised if this thread disappears . I think there is a time and place for the E collar  . In the wrong hands it is extremely cruel.

You either love your dog or you don't.   It isn't a "thing" to be shocked and mistreated.   When people go to these extremes to satisfy their own ego (like some people have to do w/fancy cars or fancy clothes in order to feel good about themselves or be noticed), then it is just sick --  and Shutzhund is supposed to be a "sport" !!  This  just boggles my mind.   Reminds me of the "overbearing stage Mothers and they way they treat their kids."   People who are shocking their dogs  -- Get real !!

Maybe not YR, but I've never seen it.  Like Wuzzup said, E collars have their place, some dogs being bred are bullheaded and need a wakeup  call, however in this instance it sounded like the handler was venting not correcting.

For me it all comes down to the training . If this style does not work then try something else as stated before e collar has thier place in traing but should not be use to hurt an animal. Too many trainers are stuck on training one way cause that is all they know.

Every dog has a purpose and some excell at ScHH more then others. Persoanlly if my dog has problems after trying different training styles then I have to make the choice of training him or her in a different area or finding the dog a new home where it will be happier being it's self.  But to force a animal is not my style I want my dogs to enjoy training and wanting to be with me. That is the love I have for my animals.

Personally if that was a club I was at I would not continue to train at the club. I could not sit by and watch that. To each is there own but that does not mean I have to see or be apart of it  and would not want to support it.
