My boy turned 24 weeks today.  He has one ear that stands up for most of the day but will occasionally flop over..however it is floppy at the very top even when erect....his other ear is completely flopped over and not standing up at all.  He has lost all of his puppy teeth as of this weekend...all his front teeth are completely in....his canines are 3/4 ways in....his back molars are completely in....but his premolars are only half in and two haven't even broke the surface yet...should I be concerned.....

Thanks!

Give him something to chew on to work the muscles that support the ears.  Try a big old knuckle bone or a kong stuffed with peanut butter.  His teeth are still coming in so it's too soon to mess with taping his ears.  Give him some more time.

Thanks for calming my fears!  We have been giving him 1 large raw beef rib a day and a scoop of Knox Gelatine NutraJoint....is that okay?

I only use kongs, like puppy kong unless he is real strong chewer.
I use ice cubes to ease pain.
And at this age is too young to worry about ears.
buy him a kong instead of bones, you want those new teeth to be undamaged by bones.
Never feed cooked bones.:)

I myself prefer to use the large black kongs.  Echo destroyed her puppy kong.  I fill it with peanut butter and freeze it.  The Knox Gelatine should help also.  matthews3662 makes a good point about the bones wearing down the teeth but many others have advised to give bones so it's really up to you on that choice.  You should see a big change in those ears in about 30 days but all puppies are different.  Does he have a big crease in either ear?  You may want to spend some time massaging any area that shows a crease.  Good luck with him.

I was researching ear taping for quite awhile.  From everything I read, I think the general consensus is to start taping at 4 months.  My youngest girl had one floppy ear, and I started taping at 5.5 months.  It was difficult because I did n't want to separate her from the other two who kept helping her  out of the ear cast.  After several weeks, I gave up.  She's now 10 months and both ears are usually up, but occasionally the one ear still goes a bit floppy.  I think it has more to do withthe other dogs' pulling on it, than anything else.

I do think if I had started taping at 4 months instead of 5  1/2 months, the ear might have had a better chance to stand up.

I was in Amerian dogs first and I always started taping at 4 months and we always seperate them from the others. I have had ears go up right up to 12 months of age.   I also give them 1 scoop of Knox Nutrajoint with Gelatine a day and I also give them 500mg of PLAIN Ester-C in TABLETS form. You have to leave the ears tape up between 10 - 14 days and then take the tape off and give them 2 to 3 days to see if they will go up or stay up. Sometimes I had ears not be up the first day I take the tape off and then be up the next day fine. But there not up within 3 days , then you have to re tape them again.

There is still time for the ears to go up, not all is hopeless. However, get some raw beef bones, with a little bit of meat on them like the beef mnuckle or marrow bones and give him and let him chew it - a lot. That should help.

I recently had a 5 month old puppy with only 1 ear up so I use an ear form glued in with Fabric Glue, it stayed in for 10 days and the ear has remained up, no problems since.

Forgive my ignorance but would someone be kind enough to elaborate on exactly the proceedure for appying this glue.  I mean how much, where, and how to wash it off?  thank you very much.
