Which is the most popular of the two meaning how many people in each of the two sports, Not counting Belgium, but let us say the USA because it is so huge and Canada also bring in the UK, no disrespect to other countries not mention and of course feel free to air your views on the ratio in other countries because i for one would be interested to know
Having not given much thought as to the Show side of the Dogs it will be interesting, and i hope we keep it on a good vein for it is a question not for a debate on what is what

As the GSD "working" enthusiasts move over to Malinois, their number will steadily decrease.
Maybe steve1 will "go over"
This LINK is especially for "working enthusiasts" and steve1

Does your wife know your back on the computer?
Why would steve "go over" his dogs are top notch and soon to be getting another great prospect... steve needs to be a example to more of "your friends" that the german Shepherd is to be a working dog not a prancing fool...
I,m very happy with the workabality of my Shepherds although I believe that term may be foreign to you!
I,m sure there are more show enthusiasts then working, If it were easy everyone would be doing it...

How about, "just not interested" as a reason for not wanting to teach a dog a routine of ballet, barking and biting, as another reason for not "doing it"?

There were folks trying out the Mals several years ago, because the Mals mature faster, are more inclined to be prey monsters, and for various other reasons. But, the bottom line was a misconception that the Mal was the path to the podium. 90+% of those who went over to "The Dark Side" that I know have returned to the gsd.
Yes, Missbeeb, schutzhund clubs in the US tend to be predominantly female. Don't know why--just is. But, then, so are most of the competitors in AKC Obedience, flyball, agility, etc. I would not be at all surprised if it is the same among equestrians.
