The state of Arizona is being hit with the biggest outbreak of rabies that it has seen in a while, according to state veterinarian Elisabeth Lawaczeck. So far this year [2009] there have been 62 animals confirmed with rabies, according to Lawaczeck.

If you live in Arizona, it might be a good time to consider whether your animals have been vaccinated for rabies.

I lived there in Tonpah for 2 years and mine all got the 3 year Booster, but I just got a new female in yesterday that has the 3 years as well, but it goes out in Sept 2010. Think that would be ok Hodie,of I wonder what a Vet would say about a another new shot for her.?

I think if the dog had a vaccination and is not due until 2010, the dog is probably protected unless it is one of the very, very rare dogs who does not develop an immune response to vaccines. Check with your vet if you are concerned and watch out for rabid animals in your area. This might be localized. Check with your state veterinarian for more help.

Good luck.
