Police gun down goat in South St. Paul

SOUTH ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) - Some residents of South St. Paul are upset that police used a shotgun to kill a goat that had escaped from a meat processing plant.

The officer shot the female goat with 12-gauge buckshot about 7:30 a.m. Monday.

Resident Glenn Boche says he first saw the animal outside his window at 6:30 a.m., and it was "absolutely docile."

Boche says he and other neighbors are upset the goat was killed with a shotgun in an area frequented by people and young children.

Police Chief Dan Vujovich says the veteran officer who shot the goat was concerned for public safety. He says the officer's decision to use a shotgun instead of another weapon was the right choice.

How could a goat running around be a danger to public safety ?  I think these idiot folk are down right afraid of animals.

this is a goat, that was intended for processing, it was food on the hoof.

I had a range goat that tried to kill me every time I fed it, fattened it up and shot it in the head. It fed us for a few weeks.
I had a pet goat, he was very tame and funny, loved to play tricks. he died of old age.

a 12 shotgun may have been a bit much. was the goat going to run into traffic and cause a wreck? was the goat agressive, and did it try to horn the officer, the facts we may never know.............

the question should be; did the animal die quickly, or did it suffer for an extended peroid of time?

Scary...I'm sorry for the young boy that was killed, and my prayers go out to his family.  I'm saddened by a world that is so uptight that a cop will risk the lives of innocent children to kill a snake or a dangerous goat, rather than just let animal control handle them.  Haven't they ever heard of tranquilizers?  Sadder yet is the fact that people (especially police officers) panic about a snake, or a goat, in their neighborhood.  Yes, a big snake is dangerous, but if it's up a tree, it poses no immediate threat to the neighbors around it, and could be handled by animal control.  Unless of course, the AC people are afraid of animals, too?

So what if it won't come down?
I have a question to all of the police officers on this board:  Are your fellow officers so afraid of things in the real world that they must use deadly force so often?   Has the friendly neighborhood officer been replaced with one with the attitude of "shoot first, ask questions later"?   I'm only asking because I have seen officers overreact way too many times over way too many things, and it troubles me.  I see city police officers that are so tense that it makes you wonder if they are preparing for war...Haven't seen near as much tension from county and state cops, nor any of the FBI or ATF agents I've met.  What gives?  Maybe I should pose that question to some others and see what I hear.

Uglydog, good post...in addition, you'd better lock up your kids, your cats, your horses, your cars, and about everything else one might be scared of.  Maybe also any furniture you have in your yard...A stray bullet meant for your patio umbrella might hit a child, or worse...

RONNIE,   if ANYONE (cop or otherwise) was shooting at a goat like the one in your post above, he or she needs a trip to the padded room, with all those nice doctors...Pygmy goats are very small, and even though they can bruise the hell out of your shins if they apply their heads to them, they are otherwise completely harmless.

This was stupid. Doesn't matter what kinda goat, they should have just called a farmer. Every farmer I know would have taken it home, fought the court to keep it and saved a life. And a bullet. Stupid idiots.

Hey, I was thinking, should I slap a Ron Paul bumper sticker on the rental car for my travels to the Millenium Hotel ?  I figured leave the big Dodge and rent ... LMAO  I wish I could take my dog with me. Darn it.

Campaign For Liberty Convention in the Show Me state ... here we come !!!!!!!!!!!   WOOT WOOT !!!
