WAS HELMUT RAISER BEHIND THE MAKING OF THIS PROGRAMME?

by Aqua on 26 March 2009 - 11:03

Behind it? Not to my knowledge but if he was, more power to him!

The producers requested an interview with RSV2000 and met with the club at the CC-Göttingen in December 2008 where they filmed a training session and spoke with Helmut Raiser, Ursula Zabel, and Eugen Eckert.

In the article cited above Helmut says, "What we've done to the German Shepherd dog leaves him just good enough to run cricles in a ring. Most dogs are already too sick and too dumb to do much of anything else."

Aqua: What Helmut says, your quote above, is utter rubbish, and he knows it. Anyone who supports such misguided comments wants to have a serious "reality check".

I suppose ALL dogs within RSV2000 organisation will be PERFECT IN EVERY WAY., if not, I assure you that ONE RSV2000 MEMBER who owns a sick dog will be the centre of a 1 hour long TV film. Then you can Scream "
UNFAIR"

Who would argue the case that GSDs of today are not as they used to be?

Who can say that the health problems that arise in the GSDs of today regarding skeletal & tamperament problems have not increased significantly?

Who can say that a breed where there is over-breeding is not slowly destroyed? Are the labs of today the same as those of the past?

May I also ask, why such a high linebreeding takes place despite the increase of the genne-pool? Is it not for breeders worldwide to have fast and stable results?

And, while the GSD is considered to be the most controlled breed in the world regarding Hip, elbows, tamperament what is the true picture?

Ask any German breeder about how they raise their puppies: They switch the nutrition of their puppies to adult food at early age (even at 10 weeks), they provide their puppies with supplements containing glucosamine, chondroitin, vitamin E, gelatin, vitamin C, etc. They do not leave them jump, they keep them on soft floors, and they do not allow them to play with more than 1 dog at a time...these among others.

If you mention that to a prospective new GSD owner who does not know what is going on, the first question that will come in his mind is: Is my new puppy sick?

The GSDs of today have definately deteriorated. Still, they remain a stable value among other breeds but the difference has now become much less...

So, I would be so skeptical and let things evolve and see what happens....Don't you think so David (Videx)?

@ Videx

Come film my puppy, then. I'm a member in RSV2000. My puppy is the product of SV breeding principles. My puppy is sick.

When we do the filming, David, let us be very sure to outline why my puppy's temperament and physical shortcomings happened under the SV system and then let's compare how they would have been avoided under the RSV2000 guidelines.

I certainly do not agree with your generalisations Petros.

Now I ask you to PROVE your assertions above apply to the majority of GSD, and the majority of GSD breeders.

GSD folk who make such comments are in danger of becoming the instruments of our breeds destruction with such irresponsible comments.

Thank god those who make such comments are a very small minority, and most of those making such comments are pathetic ATTENTION SEEKERS! Others are simply stupid, and some are firing the bullets of "troublemakers in hiding".

Aqua: A very simplistic and non-representative example. You really need to at least to try and see the "bigger picture". Perhaps it is beyond you.

Perhaps some people are doomed to be followers of those that appeal to their personal misfortunes by falsely and stupidly asserting that such misfortunes are caused by an organisation they are in personal conflict with.

by Aqua on 26 March 2009 - 13:03

David, why do you feel a need to employ ad hominem remarks? What about RSV2000 do you perceive as threatening?

Videx

Aqua: Not in the least! I actually respect the versatility of our breed. I know that millions of GSD are adored pets and companions, but I would never accuse the millions of families who own GSD as pets of turning our breed into a "rug hugging lump of fur". The versatility of our breed and the pleasure it gives to all who own them for whatever reason or hobby or to help them overcome a disability, is what make our breed so wonderful.

Efforts are made to irradicate diseases, and yes, I would like to see even more effort made. However the human race, under many various governments and political ideologies have not irradicated disease in human beings. So remain realistic and be aware of the positives and negatives, whilst pushing for progress on all fronts.

Never forget the pleasure our breed gives to millions around the world, and with its versatility it is not be surprising and long may it continue.

The RSV2000 will hopefully be a positive influence on working dogs and dogs in general. I trust they will conduct themselves responsibly, and I extend my best wishes to them
