I am taking care of a friend's male GSD for several weeks. He is fine with my 2 female GSDs (one fixed and one not) but is obsessed with my female Malinois. She is not in heat, has been out of it for about a month now. No other males she is around are this way (she is around another friend's male daily and he is a stud dog and not interested in her right now at all). He catches sight of her and loses focus on anything else. He just wants to get on her. If I let them around each other he won't stop just chases her and mounts her constantly. But he just plays normally with my 2 females. Why is this? I am keeping them seperate but I don't understand it and thought i'd see if anyone had any insight.

Could it be that she's new so he's trying to put her in her place in the pack?

she's been here since he got here. He is the new one to the pack and he's been here a couple weeks already. The mal isn't overly dominant, she's 2nd in line of my 3 females. And like I said no problems with the other 2 females....

Ohh... sorry, I misunderstood. I thought the female was new... I should get glasses.
I have a male GSD that is goo goo over our neighbours' Great Pyranees as well. We have two GSD bitches who he ignores, but he doesn't leave that big girl alone when she's here. None of the bitches are in heat. Fortunately, she's bigger than him and puts him in his place. I can't figure it either.

Wash her back end with Vinegar and water.. This helps, she might still have residual smell.
It cant hurt to try.
Good luck,

This is why I usually have to excuse intact boys from our playgroups. When they have enough dogs to choose from, one of them will frequently trigger this sort of behavior in them, and once it starts they don't let up. If you remove the dog they are obsessing over they'll drive themselves crazy sniffing and searching all the other dogs over and over looking for that dog. It's not a particular kind/age/ sex of dog either, for whatever reason they just get locked on to that one dog.. it can be a male, female, older, younger, intact or not..

Does she has any vulvar discharge??
Uterine infection like pyometra can mimic the smell of a bitch in heat. She had her season a month ago so just watch for any discharge or symptoms (drinking more, anorexia etc.)
Maybe it's nothing too..some males are just let's say..always ready!!

Thanks for the replies- july9000 she does not seem to, I do remember one day a couple weeks ago I thought she might though. (it has been closer to 2 months since her heat, I went back and checked) She doesn't seem to have increased water intake and def still has an appetite. Are there any other symptoms i should look for?
Thanks GsdXapher- I think it is that, i just haven't see a male so obsessed with a female not in heat before!
