Well after today I am afraid to socialize my dog. Maybe if i get him a muzzle it will be ok. We went out for our run which is about 2.5 miles. At our 1.5 mile point we stopped for a break (which we dont usually do) but my husband was on duty along with his partner (military police) so we stopped and talked for a min. Sarge sniffed the other guy and everything seemed fine when they guy pet the top of his head and spoke to him sarge bit the guys hand and was growling and barking.. THANK GOD there was no blood. But it was enough to scare they guy and myself. He said he was fine... anwyways now im worried about taking him out.
There was another thread on tips for socializing and I was going to take him out to the mall this afternoon... but not after what just happened.
All of this was my fault because in the very beginning I did not socialize him much. Only with people that came over and he always reacted the same with with barking at people.
Any tips or has the damage been done?
He is now 9 months.

At nine months old I would say do not attempt to remedy this by yourself. The dog has bitten once, he could do so again -and the next time it might be a child. But you MUST get the dog out and train appropriate behavior. If you don't you will have an animal which is too untrustworthy to be around anyone other than the immediate family. Socialization is for the life of the dog, at least that's what I believe. I still take mine around to all kinds of different places and situations even though they are adults: just like people they should never stop learning.

Thanks for the advice. I just called a trainer. www.superdog.com Iv heard good things about them.. pricing is a little high. But it will be worth it.

Maybe he didn't like the guy.
I don't know his breeding but maybe its just him showing some bad manners.
Mine has met people she didn't like and was quite foreward about letting them know. I didn't question her judgement.
Socializing is an on going process, theres always someone new to meet, new situations. I'd be cautious until I figured out what went on. The guy or the dog.
I hope you corrected the dog imediately.
