I thought I had heard that AKC changed some of their policies with stud dogs. Specifically I am wondering if you send a female to a stud dog out of the country, the pups are born here would you have issues getting AKC papers for the pups? Would the stud need to be DNA'd?
Thanks

The puppies can be AKC registered, just a few extra hoops to jump through. The stud does not need to be DNA'd.

So the breeder would be able to fully provide AKC paperwork when the pups are sold?

Thanks for your help!

Yes. They just get a stud certificate from the stud owner, they will also need a copy of the stud's registration papers, and they use a special litter registration form available on the AKC web site.

Keep in mind that the paperwork for the stud must be certifed by the issuing organization.  In other words, if the stud resides in Germany and is registered with the SV you must get a certified copy of the stud certificate and also a certified copy of the pedigree from the SV.  A simple copy will not work.  If the Dam was imported you also must get her DNA done in order to register the litter.  I believe that used to only apply to males but now it includes females.
