i had one of my shepherds get bloat and she kept walking up and down the fence line rubbing herself against it, and trying to vomit i rushed her to the vets and her stomach had turned they operated on her and it was touch and go for about 3 days i was lucky that they stiched the stomach to the rib cage so it has never happend again and she will be twelve this year.  the only thing i notice different about her is she gets tired quicker as they had to remove her spline.

The interesting this is that bloat has different signs some dogs vomit froth while others bloat up, i did ask my vet and he said that in some breeding bloat can be hereditary and if its a possiblity then you can get the stomach stitched to the rib cage to make sure it doesnt happen.

i will be intrested to hear other opinions on this subject as there is so many dogs that seem to get it

but good luck with your dog

sorry this was meant to be a reply to the other thread about bloat not a new one

Thank you.  I am still waiting to  hear if she needed surgery or not and it is good to let everyone know that the signs can be very different in dogs.  From what I understand - unusual behaviour, like your dog rubbing on the fence.  The symptoms can be very strange - and hard to tell if their stomach does not expand.
