What a brilliant letter!  Everything written down clearly and concisely, point by point.  Am DYING to hear the KC response (if any)  I particulalryl like the point about so many of the reported Hereditary problems being there long before the split of type in the breed.  I started training as a veterinary nurse in the mid '60s and we had so many Alsatians (as they were commonly known then) with SEVERE Hip Dysplasia coming in to our surgery.    We had horrendous cases of Epilepsy - all from common bloodlines.  (German Type could not be blamed as we had Quarantine restrictions then and limited access to German/International lines.) But the breed DID lead the way forward with HD, through the GSD League initially, and then through the BVA/KC scheme.
Well done Linda for such a comprehensive letter.

I read this letter from Linda Swift when it was published in last months GSD National Magazine. I was very impressed with it, so I contacted Linda and asked if she would agree to me placing it on my website as I felt it made a major contribution to the very serious issues that our GSD breed has with the Kennel Club, and it encapsulates in a very eloquent and precise manner what many closely involved with the German Shepherd Dog (Alsatian) feel. By placing it on my website it ensures that many more people here in Great Britain and around the World, can read this suberb letter and associate with its content, and also print it down.

Linda has informeed me that her letter has not even been acknowledged by anyone from the Kennel Club. I consider this as an insult to Linda, and a disgrace for the Kennel Club to ignore such a well written and detailed letter written on behalf of our breed by someone with such experience and devotion to our breed. I sincerely hope the universal coverage I am giving this letter, stimulates many people to formally and informally request the Kennel Club to respond comprehensively, and without any further undue delay.

To ALL those Kennel Club members involved to any degree with our GSD breed, I call on ALL of you to request those appropriate and with the authority within Kennel Club to give an OPEN reply to Linda's letter. Linda and everyone involved with our GSD breed deserves NOTHING LESS.

Well done Linda, excellent letter. Over the years I have always enjoyed your many superb contributions to the BC Mag.
I am disgusted but sadly not surprised you have not yet recieved a response from the KC on any aspect of your letter.
Best regards

We need something similar to that to go to the GSDCA and AKC.

This post certainly isnt to do with this thread, but knowing that it is an excellent letter - lots will read the thread, which is why i am posting the following on it - to raise awareness to everyone attending Crufts.   Mo

I am delifghted to tell everyone this morning, that

"The Man From Del-Monte, He Say YEAH"

S
eriously, Brian Wootton has agreed to get to Crufts (although wasnt going) and represent us as Press Officer.  We had a long chat, and he is not in favour of splitting the breed - for very good reasons, as good as for the ones in favour of the split (almost ) - so its all a bit of a head-banger, but I also put others points to him, which he was also interested in.  Good Debate... outcome, have a word with him.   He will be at Crufts, he will be by the Breed Council Stand, and I urge you all to tell your friends and others that may be asked any questions - to head them into the direction of Brian.  say to everyone - that - he will only be effective for us, if he is used.  Dont speak with people, and get into hot water, then send them to him, send them right away to "Our Press Officer" - and if you are not sure who is asking questions of you, send em anyway in case.

I Am going to speak with some-one who began this interesting thought - from the Bulldog people, and see how they are going to mann the position, and will be back to you all and to Brian.  Incidentally, and very sadly, Brian feels that as KC Liason Officer, he has been consulted about nothing.  He is more than happy to get involved in debates about various issues, relating particularly to the KC and health and the welfare of the GSD as a breed - but is not being asked to attend various meetings and not being consulted. As a gentleman, he wouldnt dreamo of asking to be there, but is available if necessary in the eyes of others.

How Sad Is That  !!!   Brian has a wealth of experience, is a very eloquent man that you could quite imagine could make an impression at the KC - and is willing to be involved.   "Willing Workers" and all that.

As well as having no pc - and fairly recently a telephone - he doesnt drive, so would appreciate a lift to the event.  Anyone near Wolverhampton?  High Heath Essinton to be precise, that would give our Press Officer a lift to Crufts.

Bless you Brian, you live in another age, but are there when required.

Mo - Mascani.

Linda Swift would be a great asset to our National GSD Breed Organisation.
