I am posting a link to a promising new message board devoted to PPD (Personal Protection Dog) training. I also took the liberty of copying and pasting the site's home page to this post. It looks like a good site for PPD enthusiasts such as myself. :) Please feel free to check it out and share in this positive community. It's 100% free, no spam here!

This site was started as a resource for protection dog trainers. All too often we are limited as to what we can achieve with our dogs because of the lack of training partners/decoys. Being a somewhat isolated venue protection dog trainers traditionally don't network very well. It is a shame because we all know the necessity of exposing our dogs to various human opponents.![]() The dilution and consequent misunderstanding of protection training due the various dog sports is another factor responsible for our small numbers. People who would otherwise be an asset to a protection program are drawn to other venues such as Schutzhund clubs where their perception of working protection dog training is twisted. This in turn makes them frown upon those who want to prepare their dogs for the real world. The objective of this site not to belittle dog sports or the people and dogs who participate in them but it is meant to draw a defining line between sport dog training and protection dog training so that everybody who participates here can be at ease talking about what they do. Liability is yet another thing that complicates matters for us. Protection Dog Training Club's position on liability is that we believe in controlled dogs. Controlled due to inherent stability and obedience training and/or controlled by limiting public access to the dog. The rest we don't give a shit about. The dog throughout history has been a guardian of family and property and we're not going to succumb to cultural pressures advocating that all dogs must be animated stuffed toys. We are not breed specific. While we believe that there are dog breeds among which potential protection dogs are more easily found we also know that there are exceptions to this and that there are excellent protection dogs among the off breeds. We also recognize that protection can be defined by varying standards. All have their preference but in terms of deciding the kind of protection that is needed from a dog ultimately it is the choice of the owner/handler as far as breed, trainability, sociability, and whether the dog will be used offensively or defensively. Protection dog training club is a place for trainers and decoys to make use of each other's abilities for the betterment of our dogs. Apart from being a place where knowledge can be shared it is a place to find training partners. The forum is divided into regions where you can introduce yourself and find others who are willing to exchange helper work. As membership grows more regions will be added at the request of members looking to network in their area. ![]() by wuzzup on 09 February 2009 - 11:02 I like the sounds of this kind of club..Much better then sch. I hope they start one in my area . by Vikram on 09 February 2009 - 12:02 This is a lot better organized board than some others recently advertised here. The discussions seem to be related to dogs ( So far!!!!) I have joined and would recommend this forum for serious ones Keep up the good work. More the forums better for the consumers. cheers by Bob McKown on 09 February 2009 - 12:02 I don,t mind PPD but right off the bat there is the "schutzhund" comment, and for the most part the PPD trainers that i,ve listened to are just swat and run guys... Then there is the token "oh we don,t want to belittle any body" ![]() by steve1 on 09 February 2009 - 13:02 OH, I really wish this SchH was so easy and dried cut, because the way some in the past have talked about it, it relation to other forms of Dog Sports it is easy to train a 8 week old Pup to SchH 3 of the highest order I was training yesterday with a couple of club members and a two of strangers. and one experinced Guy of over 30 years in the sport made a right cock up of working the excersise on Obed, Nothing went right a Top SchH3 dog with high scores every time he competes were like novices on the field, Yes, it is so easy that is why there is an abundance of Top SchH3 Dogs around, and i mean scores well up in the 90's every time they compete on all three phases So none of us Guys should have no problems getting our dogs to that standard, I only wish it were true Steve ![]() by wuzzup on 09 February 2009 - 13:02 I never said schz. was easy .I think it is extremely hard to get a dog to get good scores and that kind of discipline is very time consuming and personally rewarding for the dog and the owner .I just don't like the tracking. I would rather do sars tracking. That being said the discipline aspect of protection work would surely be equal to the discipline needed in shcz. .I certainly would nor do sars with a protection trained dog. by Patrick Murray on 09 February 2009 - 14:02 It's also challenging to teach one's dog to dance around on a stage in unison with its handler; that doesn't mean I want to do it. To each his own. by Bob McKown on 09 February 2009 - 15:02 It,s not so hard to tie a dog to a tree and beat it with a pole to make it aggresive. to each his own. ![]() by 4pack on 09 February 2009 - 15:02 Bob shut the hell up, you have no idea what you are talking about. ![]() by Two Moons on 09 February 2009 - 15:02 SSDD. OLi this is the glitch that occurs when someone does a cut and paste. Contact information Disclaimer Privacy Statement Copyright Information Terms of Service Cookie policy ↑ Back to top |
