Do any of you know what this term means?  Please be specific. I have heard it used a lot lately and I'm not sure what or who it  is.

I would call myself a dog Nazi. Meaning I am THAT PICKY and/or controlling about where any dog I have anything to do with will end up. No compromises-food, care, type of home, etc. Probably one out of ten or so people will pass my stringent test.

First time I have heard it.  I would assume it means someone who subscribes to the whole idea of eugenics in dogs, where only certain characteristics should be allowed to survive and be breed.  In a correct/ethical definition, the art of dog breeding is no different then the creation of a master race (the breed).

For example: cull by euthinasia all members of the group that do not meet the standards, whites, blues, livers, cryps, bad ears ect.   Do what nature in the survival of the fittest should be doing, but with "fittest" defined by man.

The Nazi's used this philospohy to support the re-creation of the Aryan Nation, a master race of blue eyed blonds with good sturcture and high intellegence.  Eliminate all bad genes by culling those that produce the traits or have the unwanted traits (metally retarded, persons precived to have a lack of character ect).  Works great to create dog breeds, horses ect. where man has complete control of the breeding.

I hadn't really heard it before, either. I guess I'd still be a dog Nazi by baldursmom's definition as well, lol. Maybe not THAT extreme, but close.

I think we are "better" than a Nazi, we typically find good pet homes for dogs that make the cut, we make allowances for litters over six and there are those that like the off-colors.  The NAZI part would come into play if we really caome down on those that like the whites, long coats, blues and livers.  Are they really that threatening to the breed that we can't allow someone to specialize in them?

I saw an ad last year in the local paper:
RARE long coated white German Sherpherd $1500.

My thoughts immediatly went to, yeah two recessive traits that are faults in the standard, rare because it should have never been breed.  I too share the Nazi thought process here,  and if someone asked me about a dog like that, I would tell them its rare because of the standard.  But would I  condone someone that turned out litters of them????  Pretty easy to do really, just need a male and female white long coat, viola all long coat whites with hopefully the shepherd stucture so as not to be confused with a Sammie.  Knee jerk reaction is no, I would not condone it.  It does nothing but create dogs that are outside the breed standard.  My Libra scense of justice says yeah but to each his own, let them alone, they will only atrack a small amount of "fanciers of designer dogs" and they will go away before long, just like leg warmers and gaucho pants.

I would call myself a dog Nazi. I HAVE been called the house Nazi in the past by roomies, sorry I run a tight/clean ship.

It would be more PC though to use "General".  If any breeder ot other human thought a certain person should not have a dog, they are doing a service to the whole dog comunity and the term Nazi does not apply, even to the Soup Nazi as he was just protecting his product from paletes and unappreciative customers who could not really enjoy their soup.   Although I am sure he used nothing but the freashest, finest ingredients and would not serve a soup not up to his standards, can we rally compare him to a Nazi?  Has nothing to do with being a real Nazi.  The net effect would be lower the negative conotation of the war crimes commited and cheapens the memory of all who suffered.

I respectfully disagree that any of the definitions proposed are correct, especially those whose philosophies are directed toward the protection of a breed or breeds.

The link below highlights many instances of dog nazi thinking:

Nazi dog  is a german shepherd dog who was trained by his owner to give the nazi salute. He was sentenced to a jail term by the German authorities and has subsequenty escaped!
