I doubt that the intentions of the original poster to the Blue Puppies thread meant to address the pros or cons of attorneys,
SO... You so sillly as to click on this thread shall now learn MY feelings about yet another rather sensitive subject--- LAWYERS!
As much as so many here appparently despise lawyers, I am compelled here to mention that two of my most admired people on this earth were and are exactly that.
Would it not for some lawyers, not only would I, but would uncounted others have been unfairly judgd and caused untold amounts of unecessary and unwarranted suffering.
My own attorney in Yuba-Sutter, CA, a Mr David Lane, is and always will be one of my all time HEROS. Say what ya'll will about lawyers, that man has righted so many wrongs that, were I younger, I would seriously consider studying law towards preparation for the Bar.
Do I love all lawyers? HELL NO!
Do I think a lot of them are ambulance-chasing assholes?
Of course I do, and a disgusting number of them they are. The telephone books are LOADED with those
But to conemn the profession wholesale I cannot.
The phone books are more-so filled with crooks willing to take us all to the cleaners, IFthe ones nearest and dearest to us don't get there first.
Sure. I have had some brushes with a few jerk-ass lawyers (and a jerk-ass DA or two) who I totally believe will rot in hell, no dogs present, but to condemn the profession as a whole just does't cut it with me.
WHY?
Because more often than not MY representitives from the bar have represented me not only fairly, but honorably, while still, yet! striking terror and horror in the hearts of those who would damage me, usually with merely a letter in those peoples' mailboxes.
BTW- Both my attorney and I slept just fine after said letters were duly delivered. :-D
A truly GOOD attorney, with a good and fair heart (yes, they do exist) who represents one in the interest of justice, with appropiate strength and just commitment, is invaluable.
Does this mean I am pandering to Mystere?
ROTFLMAO
Probably not.
Luv ya Sweetie... sorta... sometimes... .
...and I am getting really close to forgiving you for that thing with Dougie in Ohio (God rest his soul)

Hey Shelley, I must admit I hate criminal defense attorneys; at least the ones that make a career out of defending slime balls. They are the sleaziest animals on the planet. I don't know how they sleep at night, I guess well on their silk sheets in their big houses.

2 men are washed up on a shore from a ship wreck while walking thru the jungle looking for food one of the men fallls into a deep hole filled with ravinous rats the second man hurries and finds a long vine and throws it down to the first just as the second man starts to climb down the hole the first man comes climbing out, shocked and dismayed the second man says "your not even bleeding those rats could strip a animal to the bone in minutes" the first man dustes him self off and calmly explaines" i,m a lawyer and it,s called professionel courtesy!!!"

It was so cold here yesterday that the lawyers and bankers had their hands in their OWN pockets.

Who do you think wrote the laws in the first place?
Slamdunc, isn't everyone innocent until proven guilty?
We make our own hell.

In this country you are guilty until proven innocent. You can be arrested for anything. You may be totally innocent, and the charges absurd. It will still cause you to come up with bail and hire an attorney. Depending on the charges and your record, the fees can be astronomical.
It seems the garbage with the most rights are the ones who should be tortured and executed instantly and publicly. These are the trash that hurt children. Rapists can also be thrown into this group.

I firmly believe in the death penalty for certain crimes.
We have the same problem with animals, people want to save them all.
The more appeals the more money lawyers make. Society pays for it all.
We make no sense as a people.

Two Moons, I have no problem with innocent until proven guilty. However, there are 2 people in court who don't get sworn in. They don't swear to tell the whole truth, they are the attorneys. Sometimes, as a police officer, you deal with the same career criminals on a daily basis. You speak to citizens of the neighborhoods that they plague and get some good info. You know these guys are responsible for the drive by shootings, the drug dealing, the robberies, home invasions etc. But the residents are too afraid to testify. Back when I was in patrol I chose a paticular beat to work because the violence and dope dealing was off the hook. I was out of my car with these guys everyday. It was like a revolving door, I'd lock them up and they'd be out in no time. Eventually, you catch them dirty with a bunch of dope and they serve some real time. I am well versed in search and seizure and the 4th ammendment, better than most defense atty's. So, I don't violate any rights and I'm patient. These guys all make mistakes and eventually it catches up with them. They always get the same sleazy lawyers to represent them and these atty's are not public defenders.
I was involved in a shooting last January and a friend, a fellow narcotics detective was killed. The slime ball hired a high priced atty who for the past year tried the case in the media. The defense atty released the most ridiculous information to the media. Because of his press statements we have been crucified in the media for the past year. The trial just ended with a conviction. It wasn't bad enough to lose a friend, who was a father of 3 what made it worse were the tactics of the defense atty. I rarely lose cases in court, I put in over 150 indictments last year for distribuiton of cocaine on numerous individuals, some went federal. I can't remember the last case I lost, it's been years. I enjoy making obnoxious defense atty's look stupid in front of the judge. There are a couple of good ones in my city, who are actually decent people and very good atty's. But, really just a couple the rest could jump off a cliff for all that I care.
