I have a female that I aquired from a guy who got rid of her because when she came in season she didn't bleed very much and she didn't swell too large n he was never successful as getting her bred. What could be the problem with this female? She is three years old. I haven't had her long enought to see what she is like when she is in season. Here is a link to her pedigree: http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/pedigree/580025.html. Please give me your comments on her and her pedigree.
Thanks

I had the same problem. I had to use a very experienced dog and a experienced handler with the mating. I was difficult but at the end it worked out fine.
some of the issues include the male getting locked outside, difficult in penetrating.
giving birth also was difficult, each puppy came without the water bag and the bitch whelped and jumped up for each puppy when they came out. Other than that there are no real complications

i would certainly not want the trouble of breeding this female.
Too much trouble, too many problems, and why increase the odds of handing down genetic reproductive problems.

I have a female with the same issue - she could not mate properly and I was told by the vet she would never be able to mate naturally. I decided to forget it and just let her keep one of the males company. That's right not only did she mate with him she had 9 puppies all naturally!! At least they were both breed surveyed!!

Nature sometimes has ways of telling you if something is not to be.

Although I bred my female who turned out to whelp 12 puppies and all still alive. She turned out to be an exerllent mother.
all this would depend on the degree of the problem.

Thanks everyone for your replies. I don't know if I worded the issue right. Her vagina when not in season is the normal size as others females not in season. However, the guy i got her from says when she comes in season she doesn't swell very big nor does she have noticable bleeding you have to really inspect her. My other female that I have when I bred her she didn't swell very big but now she has a normal size swelling when she is in season. Do you think sometimes it takes getting the bitch bred and pregnant to get the vagina to swell normally? My other female can be viewed here: http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/pedigree/480324.html the only dog my two females have in common is of course Ursus Batu.
What are your thoughts.

Lack of noticeable bleeding could be that she is a really clean dog.
I would have a canine repro doc check her for strictures and get a full thyroid pannel done.
She might just be a really tight bitch. Not to be too graphic here, but I thought you guys liked that kind of thing.
