If it is within the USA you will simply go to the cargo pick up area for the particular airline your puppy is being shipped on.
If it is international, you have to deal with customs. I just went through that with Delta and it was a bit of a nightmare.

Get all of the flight information from the shipper, including time/place he's leaving and flight #, and time he's arriving and flight # (usually there is a connection) - and confirmation #. Get the booking # also from the shipper, he may not get that until he actually checks the dog in at the airport.
Be there on time. Bring a leash, a towel (in case the puppy has had an accident and needs to be cleaned up) and a bottle of water for the same, and to give him a drink.

Bring your ID also.
And to add to Molly's clean-up suggestion. Think of the worst and bring enough towles and clean up stuff.

I had to bring a collar also.
The pup was delivered to a seperate building,(cargo)but before I could get her, I had to go to customs to pay our countries taxes on the pup, an additional $150. That took an extra hour. She was a trooper though and only had one little pee after being over 10 hours in a crate.
They are not allowed to touch your pup, and take it for a pee, even if you give them permission, until all dues are paid. At least that was what happened in my case, not sure what your situation is.
You must be excited, all the best with your puppy!
