I build, and sometimes custom design.
Know what you want, know what you need, thats the first step. To properly design a building one needs to know how its to be used and then see what you can do to make it functional. Then you make it pretty.
Make cut outs first, its better than a drawing. Just the floor plan, everything to scale. Graph paper works fine.
The building parts quick, take your time in planning.
List all the details in the form of a check list. Figure out your budget. Consider the lay of the land and how best to use it.
Where are you located?

i have been to a few different kennels and seen how they are put together. my idea is somewhere between 20-30 runs, indoor, outdoor, with access to play areas from the outside. one of the best ones i have seen had access doors that can be open and closed without having to enter the kennel.
i have got a rough draft of what i am wanting to build, just trying to find companies that make kennel panels, modular systems, etc. to get an idea of prices, and what type of divider works best between kennels.

John,
Your talking about some major dinaro I can tell you that much from here.
As a contractor I can tell you if your looking for prefab parts and sections, systems, the price will be even higher than building from scratch.
You must have won the lottery....lol
Are you going into business?

I used to manage a boarding facility, and I can tell you what was wrong with it LOL
When I had property, I built kennels, and made some major errors to be sure. I regretted not planning it out to the ninth degree.

havent won the lottery yet, possibly going into business with boarding and training. i am still brain storming, gathering all the info i can. one of the biggest issues i can forsee is a storm shelter, living here in tornado country.
also, any ideas for partitions between kennels? keep them from seeing each other, fence fighting (which i know is not always out of aggression), etc.
thanks for the info so far

We have tornadoes too.
Best defense would be a concrete building. Between runs use short walls, I'd use metal with wire at the top for ventilation and light. durable and easy to clean.
