Hi,

I was just wondering if anyone here has had experience with this product for treating infertility in their bitches
and what the outcome was. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

I thought it was to prevent ovulation and therefore prevent heat cycles?

It is not the same as Cheque drops, which prevent ovulation and heat cycles. This is used for bitches that have early heats (less that 4 months apart) or if you are trying to preserve the uterus for a breeding/showing or working female. Every heat cycle, bred or not, the uterus goes through a lot of stress. Cheque drops help preserve the uterus lining. Dr. Hutchinson says that Ovaban should NEVER be used in a bitch that you intend to breed. This is because it is a progesterone product, and that is the exact hormone we are trying to preserve the uterus from. http://kerschberger.com/CanineReproduction.htm Theresa

Thanks for the clarification.    Now, do you by chance now how I can get hold of Cheque drops?  Are they even on the market anymore?

Hello

Did anyone use the Cheque drops and then breed their dog when she came into season after stopping the medication.  If so what were the results?

I have an e-friend who breeds Cardigan Welsh Corgis. She told me to stay a mile away from Cheque drops. They rendered a friend's bitch completely sterile!

In general stay away from any kind of Heat or pregnancy preventing medications if you have plans on breeding a bitch in the future.   While it's not a 100% coririlation between using them and later infertility or reduced infertility there's certainly enough info to suggest a link.  Even going thru an "OOPS" litter is better... that's how I ended up with some lovely Shepherd/ Akita kids out of my Champioin Akita *sigh* after my housemate decided that they certainly could go out in the yard to play instead of doing the "musical door" routine as I left directions while attending a show.  Too bad it wasn't in the day of designer dogs!! I coulda made a mint (joking folks so please don't jump me.. LOL)
