what are some good working lines out thair,i'm new to the breed and really want to get in to it.

by Kandi on 11 January 2009 - 22:01

Oh geez, that is a really a tough question to answer. Your best bet would be to get out there to clubs, trials, or watch soem videos and decide what dogs you like, and then look up the pedigree on them.

Oki, let me think about it:

Working lines:

DDR working lines (old east block of germany)

Check working lines

West working lines

now you will ask 10 people on this forum and they will only agree one one thing that they don't agree with other person choice lol. It depends what are you really looking for, all three working lines bring something else (unique to their lines) to the table, to be honest it would be easier for you to tell us what are you looking in a dog and point you towards the right direction. You can mix those lines together and you will still end up with totaly differen traits. Your question is more complicated than you think. Sure you can go to a club and see the dog's and maybe you will find something that you like but the chance of fighting the same dog are rather poor. Keep in mind that if you are buying a puppy you buying a lottery ticket. Many dog's can't reproduce the kind of dog they are, some will produce the same tratis, some will produce less of a dog than they are and some will produce better dogs then they are, now you will add a dam to the mix and once again a lot of variables come to the table. My sugestion find a breeder that repats the breeding pair more often than once and try to see what they produced than look for a puppy with that combination. More often breeders will tell you what to excpect based on the sire while the sire dose not produce anything close to himself, this is why seeing progeany is more important than seeing sire or dam. Keep all those variables in mind do you homework ( a lot of old treaths that talk about different dogs out there) spend more than a week or a month on your research and you will increase the chances of your success. Good luck. I have both West working lines and check X DDR mix I love both to deaths :) but they are two different dogs :)

East German (DDR lines)

West German lines

Czech lines

Belgiun lines

Dutch lines

Slovak lines

...and on and on and on...But like someone said above...the thing to do is to start pulling up pedigees and looking at their lines...(dogs in their past) and see some of the foundation dogs...You have to get out and start seeing some dogs work and then you can ask what their pedigees (bloodlines) are....

Everyone has different experiences and therefore different ideas of what they like or want in a dog...

You could always try looking up past threads on here. You will find answers to both and most of your up coming questions too.

gdogs,

Most people on this board would not know a working line dog if it walked up and bit them on the ass!

Write beetree, Ha

Kandi gave you an EXCELLENT suggestion and I would second it: go to some schutzhund clubs and TALK to the members. There is NOTHING schutzhund people enjiy talking about more than dogs and bloodlines. You can see for yourself, after a relatively short time, what "some" people like and don't like about certain country's bloodlines, certain kennels' bloodlines and specific dogs. You certainly won't get it on a board, because the dogs are not in front of you to "demonstrate" what's explained to you. Further, the thread will inevitably be highjacked by people who don't train (and never have?) anyway. The only question would be whether they would be show line folks (from the USA or UK), or shiloh folks. :-) PLEASE, go to a few schutzhund clubs. I assume you are in the US. USA, DVG and WDA list the clubs on their websites: www.germanshepherddog.com. www.dvgamerica.com www.gsdca-wda.org UK has a gsd league for schutzhund. Bancroft can give you the url. Australia has www.schutzhundaustralia.com. Canada: www.gsscc.ca
