Overall, I'm pretty negative about sport tracking as it applies to the real world, but attended a seminar with Gary last year and liked his methods.  As a necessary evil, I wouldn't hesitate to follow his technique.

Hi Cindy,

I agree that it is a worthwhile read - lots of interesting tidbits and some pretty good techniques and tips. Just as with any training book, there are some techniques that I don't think would work with all dogs, which is why a collection of books is always good to have to pick and choose those that may be more in line with your particular dog and personal training style. I don't regret buying this book at all.

I just got this book yesterday to add to other 50 or 60 books (most of them useless, as it pertains to working dog). I perused it and read a few chapters that I think show the book being worthy of studying/reading further or not, and it kind of shows what the author is "really about" when discussing these topics. I have the book by me now.

The chapers were send Outs, heeling patterns, bark and hold, obstacle and dumb bell retrieve, downing for article in tracking, blind search and courage test.

The verdict is the book is really good and worth reading. Hell, at 26 bucks,it's a steal for the variety and wealth of info it gives alone and it can help tremendously of "training the trainer". You spend more than that on a dinner and a few beers on saturday night. the beer gets pissed out and the food gets crapped out. The book stays and it will most definitely help with your training.

Seeing in another thread that you just got a small puppy, he does extensively talk about very early training - imprinting, so you'll have a head start in everything. Go ahead and order it, it's a great investment.
