Do you know of this kennel? Have you visted this kennel?

by VKFGSD on 07 January 2009 - 10:01

Not the first time I've said this and unfortunately probably won't be the last -

You know Google is really quite a nice invention. I suggest that you Jo-Don and Beaver Falls as well as Jo-Don Kennels. Then use the info you find to do further searches on individuals and places named. One item you will find is this thread which popped up which you  might want to read thoroughly http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/bulletins_read/87276.html

As a note to others who post these general inquiries 1. Please do your homework first which means at a mimimum Google the web and this db(see link upper right) AND search the messagelist ( you will get different results from the Google search of the db) 2. If you then choose to post - tell us what you are looking for and WHY. You will have a much better chance of getting a response.

So for example in this case are you another dissatisfied customer or do you  just want to find out about your dog's littermates and their abilities or is there a health/temperament issue that has raised it's ugly head or ( like so many are sigh) are you thinking of going into the breeding business and now realize you need to know something about the dogs behind your dog or or or. If you let us in on the secret agenda we might just talk back to you.

IMHO when I see a kennel is USDA registered I run the other way. Sign of very large commerical (often, frequently, usually a puppymill). Also this kennel appears to have had problems in two different locations AND is listed on one website as a Petland supplier. The red caution light should be flashing.

It looks like Fudd has a littr of pretty nice puppies to sell.   I hope he is not considering selling them to a kennel like Jo Don!!

by dutss on 07 January 2009 - 12:01

I have met the owner and have seen two of his pups.

He seemed like a  nice person.  The adult dogs I have seen were friendly and out going.

The pups I have seen seemed to have good nerves and and a great temperament for  a family type of dog.

I do think he could do  more reseach into the GSD as far as breed standard and what they are bred for.

I wouldnt buy a pup for work or sport from him.....but I think he is into breeding for pets and probably wont claim otherwise.

I like dogs bred for work the way they were intended to be bred by Max.  The ones that dont work out are pets and should not be bred.

But, that is just my opinion and I could be wrong.

His dogs seem to be  better family pets than many of the pet/show breeders are producing.

This was the first time that I have posted anything on here. I have read through every page that is on here and found a post that  was very disturbing to me about this kennel on page 19. I am hoping that the user who was giving Jo don a bad rap on here was going to reply to my post and I hope they still do. The user was saying that he moved here from out of state, Not True! The owner of this Kennel has owned and operated and lived in the same home ,raised a family of two daughters for well over 30+ years. And for this user to say that he came to Pa to get away from a bad past of whatever he or she thinks they know is just crazy. And then something is said about the kennel being a puppy mill. How is having an average of one maybe two litters a year justify you as being a puppy mill?? And it is said that this person has been to Jo don kennel and the place is a mess well i would like to know what kennel he was at because it sure wasnt Jo-don's. PA kennels are regulated by the Pa dog warden and are inspected by the wardens at any time. For a man and his family to all work full time jobs for around 12hrs a day and return home and spend another 3-4 hours in the kennel taking care of his dogs and the kennel is always in top shape and I have yet to see a cleaner kennel. I have two male shepherds from this kennel one being a fully trained personal protection dog and another in training for a dual purpose k-9. Both of which are the best dogs I have ever owned. I have been in law enforcement for 10 years and have seen alot of dogs come and go and I would put my two up against any other K-9's out there.  So i guess my venting about people who think they can punch a name in the computer and they have all the facts and assume they are right need to know the kennel first hand and know they are talking about the RIGHT one not the Kennel accross the country that has a bad rap and visit the kennel  before they get on here and start posting about someone that they know notthing about. You could not ask for a better person or family than the owners of Jo-don, and you ask anyone who knows this family they will tell you the same.

Larrydee we have spoke about my litter and why do you say that about Jo-don. I would sell evey pup I have to Joe but he has some of the same lines that I do therefore my pups are of no use to him. Once again people voicing an opion about someone they know notthing about !!

It's was me who posted on the thread on page 19. I was there about 5 years ago with a friend after an ad was posted in the classifieds of a local newspaper. This thread on page 19 was brought up again not to long ago with a satisfied poster of Jo Don ... I'm asuming they prolly got their act together since then. My friend and I never seen a man while we were there ... it was a lady doing the talking and selling.

So why did you start another thread so people could read the negative stuff again?

That post was long ago and you arnt helping your friend by doing this.

Making the statement that your dogs could go up against any other k-9 may be a stretch.  I dont think a dog trained for personal protection and one in training for dual purpose gives you enough insight to what is out there....even if you have seen alot come and go.   Im not attacking you but I feel that statement may be a little off base.  I am sure your dogs are fine dogs but this is a big world and there are alot of nice bloodlines out there.
