I have a 16 wk old female out of super w.german/czech lines. She has all the drives I want to see in a pup she is very nice looking and will be a larger female 70lbs. This is the problem ever since I braught her home her right ear really never has standed up on its own. I taped the ears for 1 wk and then took it off. And once again the same ear is not standing. I taped them again and we shall see. This is my dilema I want to breed in the near future and set her up pedigree and temperment that I am looking for. i also compete an and do ob and PPD work with the dogs.  Do I keep her and take a chance or cut my losses and move on. remember she is showing all the drives any working home would ever want. Thanks

She is young if she has heavy set of ears its normal at this age, one thing that will help is get her Beef marow bone every day to jew on, and you should see that her ears will get stronger and will stend up faster. I do this with all my dogs it works every time. There is no better way (that includes taping) to make sure that the ears stend up than to let the dog chew on a bone that way the ear get nice blood flow and nice exercise. Good luck. My long coat female it took her 6 months for the ear to pup up but it was big and heave now its like a dry leather:)

Why don't you just keep her even if the ear dose not come up.How disposable dogs are. They give you thier all and what do they get back??Traded in for a different model.

I bought a dog nearly 8 years ago, to show... no ears, tried taping them... no joy!  His breeder offered to let me have pick of litter next time if I wanted to let him go to a pet home.  He's still with me, he's Squashy dog (Josh) that's life IMO.

There's still time, she's young yet.  Are the bases up?

Agree, get a marrow bone to exercise her muscles and I have heard adding Knox unflavored gelatin to the food will help too. It is good for cartilage. At 16 weeks she is still teething too, if at 5 months it is still down I guess I would re-think it . If the bases are up and she isn't getting any severe creases I would give more time. Good luck.

She is still to young like everyone else has stated on here. I personally would have left the ears alone b/c you can do more damage than good at such a young age, and if you have never glued or taped before. My female took almost 8 months before her ears stood up, and she is west showline/west working. If I run into that problem which I haven't yet (knock on wood) I wouldn't tape, I would glue. JMO

Best thing to do is not get all sweaty about it yet. If you tape them up you run the risk of infections caused by wax, moisture, bacteria, etc., held to the surface of the ear by the tape. I had a male with heavy (thick and tall) ears that never stood hard until he was 7 months old. Wouldn't have gotten rid of him if they never stood up.

The questions is always - if you like the dog, keep it. There's a helluva a lot more to a good dog than correct ears. and besides, do you give a shit about what other people think about your dog 's looks.

Stop worrying andlet time do it's thing.  The puppy is still teething and calcium is going to address the teething issue more than the ears standing.  Lots of raw, meaty bones to chew and chew, will strengthen all of the jaw and head muscles helping the ears develop the muscle they need to stand.   I would not do a thing until 5 1/2 months and then I'd wait until 6 months and then I'd start with a good professional who knows how to tape.  You just can't take it off in 1 week.  Don't mess around with taping, it can make everything worse and destroy some of the muscle already trying to take hold.

I think a valium for you and some time for your puppy :-)

Give it time makes sense to me.

Do you keep her ?

This is where I have to show great restraint.

Your not talking about a used car here.

Its your choice, your reponcibility.

Think it thru.
