Hello,

I have posted before and put a couple pics of pups for comparison see above. Long story short the person selling the pups emailed me to ask when I would come and see them and I advised if he didn't have a better time it would be after the holidays and next thing I know (as of yesterday) the pup is apparently sold? As the pup is no longer on his website. I emailed him to this effect and have not heard back?

I want a male pup for one of my sons and a female for my other son from different lineage. In fact my older son who wants a female wants a "working" lineage pup to work and title etc and it seems like almost every time I find one that is good they end up being gone before I can complete the necessary research. I want a male show conformation pup similar to the number 2 pup I posted awhile back which is also pictured above. I did like him and only needed to test his drive per some of your suggestions with work ability and prefer the sire to be VA rated or at least top V. The Dam also has to be of proven lineage. I prefer for the male pup a dark blk/red and no white. The female I am a bit more open as far as color as my elder son likes all black as well as sables etc but on the working side I want recognized proven worklines in the pedigree.

I have been researching for awhile and am not going to accept what I feel is an inferior pup just to say I have one as I plan to invest time and money in training going to shows etc. I do not expect to buy a pup that will go VA or make the top in nationals etc but I do not think it is too much to ask for a pup with mimimal faults that has at least a chance to compete?

I have a few contacts in Germany but even though the lines are good the males are way too feminine looking and another I know of sold the pup I was going to pursue when I found out the one I wanted locally is gone. I know I sound like I am whining but basically I just want to know if any of you have suggestions other than saying going to my local club as those available are also not what I am looking for. Should I just keep on keepin on or ? Any help is greatly appreciated. The pup above would be a look I am looking for as far as a show conformation pup with work ability.

Respectfully,

What happened to your earlier GSDs? Some people thinking of selling may be offended by your way of going about this, posting here, asking over and over which is better etc.......just a thought.

The other ones were apparently sold before I had a chance to see them. As far as people getting offended I am not sure as to why. The pic of the pup I included is to say that I want one similar to him and that would be and is a compliment and in no way intended or would be taken as offensive as far as I can tell. Additionally I havent asked or done anything over and over per your reply. Only once. I have never done it before or since and nor would I unless I was very serious about purchasing the pup and wanted some advice on which was the better pup.

Anyone in the business would know they are only opinions on the pups and wouldn't cause the pup with the least votes not to be sold. Keep in mind these pups were from the same breeder as well as litter so it wasn't like I was comparing breeders etc. My interest is only to get the pup I am looking for and not to directly or indirectly offend anyone. I do appreciate you letting me know so I could take the time to clarify my intent.

I would be thrilled if someone posted a dog I had as a breeder and said I want my dog to look like this. Wouldn't you? Or anyone?

Respectfully,

most breeders will not hold a pup for a long time period without a deposit.  too many people just window shop and waste breeders time.

I can understand why you want to take your time and becareful but I can also understand why the breeders get frustrated and sell the puppies to someone else.

I understand your reply Uber land and maybe I should suggest it (the deposit) in the future but think it might be cumbersome if I didn't decide to purchase the pup etc and then had to have the breeder worry about a refund etc.

I am only talking about  a few days and not weeks. I guess what I am wondering is what is the usual protocol when someone is selling/buying pups? I mean what takes place from the first phone call/email whether you buy locally or internationally where you can't see the pups?

Thanks for your input,

My advice is there's always another puppy out there.  Wait until you find the right one.  If it doesn't work out or the breeder sold it before you got a chance, it just wasn't meant to be.  Don't settle for something inferior just because it falls into your lap.  Consider the time you have already spent a great way to gain knowledge about the breed/sport/pedigrees/etc.

Gefaehrlich ,

Thank you very much for your reply. I agree wholeheartedly and will not settle for less. I will keep keepin on until the right one comes along. You're right I have learned alot along the way and keep on learning so that's a good thing.

Thanks again,

I think this is precisely why they can't be expected to hold a pup for an undetermined amount of time, if they have a buyer right there.  What if you never call back, you don't decide to purchase the pup, and those people go on to find another pup?  Then they've lost the sale.

That's what a deposit is for.  To show that you absolutely want to purchase at least one of the pups, maybe which pup is still to be determined.  Maybe not.

I wouldn't expect a breeder to turn down other buyers on the off-chance I might buy a pup I had enquired about if I wasn't committed enough to put down a deposit.  Maybe if we had a verbal agreement, I might hope they'd call me up and give me "first refusal rights" or whatever, but that would be them being nice, not required.

BTW I am not a breeder, I am speaking purely from a buyer's point of view.
