Thanks, Domenic!

Here's the GSD's I've helped out over the years. (There's been a couple of non-GSD's, too.)

Lili Marlene was taken in by my uncle when her owner had to go into an old age home. He hadn't been looking after her properly, and her weight was down to 35 lbs. The vet wasn't sure she was going to live. She was also partially blind from pannus. Steroid treatment got the pannus under control, and some TLC and good food got her weight back up to a normal level. Probably due to long-term neglect, she was never very healthy, and had to be euthanized at the age of 9.

Tasha was dumped in Scarborough (east end of Toronto) at the age of 9 months. My room mate found her, and brought her home, where she proceeded to turn the house upside down. She had a streak of wilfulness and mischief in her which made her both a pain and a delight to train. She live to be 14 years old.

I rescued Ranger from life on the end of an 8 foot chain. His owner no longer wanted him, and was planning to shoot him, if no one else would give him a home. He is now my Hearing Ear service dog.

Domenic, that was a lot of years ago! At the time I adopted Lili, I was living on the 11th floor of a high rise in E. York. Then, a friend who also had a dog was looking for a room mate, and invited me to come and live with her in the Markham Rd. - Ellesmere area. She was the one who found Tasha for me.

I have some fond memories of that place. My husband was courting me while I was living there, and she got to know him fairly well. Now that I'm living in the North, this same lady is a neighbour of mine, and it's nice to be able to share memories of those times with her. She's now married, and has two kids, a dog and a hamster. And yes, we're still good friends!

What are the chances of that happening, all these years and an old roomate is still so close by.Thats awesome.I was living in Little Italy back then and am now around Vic Park and St.Clair area.I guess thats the old East York.Have you adjusted to living more North?Thats my dream one day,oh yes and to have an awesome field right there in my back yard.Sunsilver, you and your family have a wonderfull holiday season and keep safe.

That was lovely, Domenic.

I figure this is the least I can do in return for the gift(s) that my dogs have given me. I have two mixed breed foster puppies (sisters)right now,  that were born in the shelter. The litter and the mom were scheduled to be killed because they wanted the room for more adoptable dogs...???  We're hoping that they'll get a forever home soon but in the meantime, they live with my 4 GSDs on 20 acres with horses and cows. Each animal that I've fostered (both cats and dogs) seems to understand that we've taken them into some place safe...funny how that is....

Oh, it was deliberate, Dominic! She's a former real estate agent, and kept showing me available houses, until finally I caved in and bought one!

Have you adjusted to living more North? Thats my dream one day,oh yes and to have an awesome field right there in my back yard.

The winter here is SO beautiful!  It reminds me of the winters of my childhood, before global warming. Okay, I get a little tired of the constant snow at times. I finally gave in to the inevitable and bought a snow blower the other day!

My yard is half an acre, but I could only afford to fence 100 sq. feet for a dog yard. Even that cost a lot of money. I have to be careful about letting them loose outside the dog yard, as I am only a couple of hundred feet away from the highway. Also, there are deer very close by, and they have already gone off chasing them, and it was several hours before I found them, and brought them back home! VERY scary!

The first of the winter pics is a view from my bedroom window. The white specks are snowflakes. Even though the sun was shining, it was snowing. It's a very common phenomena here, called "lake effect snow.' If you live near Buffalo, you know all about that!
