-natural tracking
-big bone/dark pigment/color
-good work ethic
-stable temperment
I want a dog I can live with, not one that must live in a kennel or be crated 24-7.
I do know you can have a dog with work ethic that will turn it on when need be, but otherwise is a floor rug
Learning which lines will tend to produce which traits will help narrow the search. We Rottie people tend to be obsessive about pigment , but a light colored dog with light pigment just does not appeal to me.

Fando Sudblick lines are known for the qualities you are looking for. They are harder to find though.

I have a female out of Faro and Tom's line, Faro comes through father, and Tom z PS through mother side she is very laid back, but serious about work, very stable, nice dark pigment, big bones and awesome nose, she is from working lines though.

BTW the dog loves to kick back with my mom in the kitchen lol :) she just chills on the floor watching her, fallowing her all over the place, when my parents are watching TV she usually just sit's with them and actually watch the TV (yeah she loves my fathers western selection) lol :)

deno,
I have just what you want..
Solid black (dark pigment)
Big boned, stable, born with their nose to the ground. Sire is working k-9 narcotics dog, moms a watch dog on the farm and tracks well.
Born outside and so far living out doors, rugged and healthy.
No nonsense dogs. But I don't ship....
You'd have ta come on over and sit a spell.
Moons.

Males from the Marc Herkulesblick line tend to be like what you describe. Carol ("T") now and his great uncle Pallo before him are/were full time house dogs for those very reasons. I don't like dogs that don't mimic floor rugs in the house most of the time. I get annoyed with them and throw them out after a couple of hours.

www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/pedigree/127275.html She has bitework videos up on youtube.
This is the pedigree to my oldest bitch. Color, however, has not been perfect. Hers is nice but I have seen progeny and grandpups from her sire whose color is just ok. Sometimes bleeding saddles and white marks, tan rather than red. I bred to her to a Hannibal son and the color I got from that litter is very, very nice. Color, however, is only icing on the cake, sure doesnt make a dog.
Everything else you asked for fits the bill. Her tracking is amazing. Show her a flag, ask her if she wants to go such, and you will hear her squeal in the car the whole time its being laid. She'll track for anything, doesnt need to be anything particularly tasty or smelly.
She is, to me, the epitome of stability. Any child can hug her, kiss her, even take a bone or toy, my goddaughter once stuck her head in the dog's bowl....all they get are kisses. I use her at work around dog aggressive dogs. They can snap and growl and bark and snarl all they want, all they get from her is an amused look. I do demos regularly for 4H clubs, home school groups, day care, where she is being touched by sometimes as many as 30 children, and she is sweet and kind and calm. Minutes later we do protection scenarios and she becomes "the beast". Bad guy shakes my hand, chats with me, then attacks me and she hits like a mack truck. Her transistion from breed ambassador to badass is always flawless.
I love my other dogs, believe me, but she is truly special. I will be spoiled forever from having her. If anyone can tell me exactly where in her line this fantastic dual personality comes from, I would love to know.

KCzaja - splendid looking bitch you have there! Compact & balanced, a lovely front end balanced beautifully with a not too overdone but strong rear via a fine back, croup & loin. I bet she has a flowing gait as well.
Real good to hear her demeanour backs up these looks. Sounds like you have the epitome of a GSD - this is what they're all about ain't it? It must be such a pleasure to own such a fine animal and I bet your rightly proud.
And it doesn't surprise me that both Ursus (& Jeck) and Odin are in her pedigree either. I think a dog from good i.e. VA/V showline breeding will pretty much provide these same attributes, good structure & pigment, ability to track & work but still be able to chill with the rest of us.
Cheers,
AandA
