Hey all, I got my German Import puppy's paperwork today, and the breeder in Germany had to fill out and "name" each pup before they were shipped (before I ever saw my pup). They put the name they chose on her European pet passport and sent it in for her paperwork. So her registered name is not the same as what I've named her and call her. In this case, her registered name is "Rona" while I named her/call her "Anika". Do I need to change this, and if so how? If she's entered in shows, will her name in the catalogue be "Rona" because it's on all of her official paperwokr? I want her real name, Anika, what I call her, to be the official name printed in and used in catalogues or anywhere else. What do I do???? Thanks in advance!

I am pretty sure her name officially will stay Rona.     you can call her whatever you like.

I think that is her German (SV) name. But when you apply for AKC papers you may be able to change it. I am not sure because the breeder in Germany asked me what I wanted starting with the letter "X". I wanted the name I chose. Go to the AKC site and look up foriegn applications for what you have to send to them for AKC paperwork, it might tell you there. I think maybe you'd be better off to keep the name Rona + kennel, and just use Anika for her call name....

Just looked it up and you have to use the name of the foriegn registry.  http://www.akc.org/pdfs/foreign.pdf

Yep, you can't change the name.  The dog doesn't read, so don't tell her that's not her real name.

Many dogs that come from Europe have already been named and is their official registration name...but we can change it to anything we want as a Call Name...I know it's sorta hard for us to get used to...to begin with but it's not a big deal...Good Luck with Anika....

Pretty much when every kennel has a litter it will be an "A" litter, "M" litter, etc. and each puppy will have the same first initial.  Sometimes breeders will let you pick the name (as long as it begins with the right letter) and that's what they use with the paperwork.  With our one import was got to pick her name, but the last puppy we imported was already named.  None of the dogs we own use their "given" registered name.  However, paperwork-wise, you'll have to use the name that came with the puppy.  No big deal though; except for the paperwork and registering your puppy on this database, your dog will always be Anika.

Thanks so much for the help everyone, I can live with her registered name being different than her call name. One last question for anyone who can help... I'm putting together her paperwork but her Bescheinigung has the name of her importer (the 1st U.S. owner, who is not me) on it. The importer did sign the back of her pink papers and he did sign the AKC Foreign Dog registration paper. Do I need to re-send in all of this paperwork to the SV in Germany to get another copy of the Bescheinigung in MY name? Or can I send the paperwork as it is now to the AKC and get her registered to me anyhow? As it stands now, with the Bescheinigung NOT being in my name (but everything is singed), I am still legally the owner, correct? Thanks again!!!

Hello Champ,

Ok, to shed some light on the names of Puppys bred in Germany, here it goes :

When a breeder is registered with the SV, all the "first" names of his 1st litter ever bred will have to start with an "A". All Pups of his 2nd litter must start with an "B". 3rd litter all with an "C" and so on down the ABC. So by looking at the first name of a Pup you will know how many litters were bred by that kennel. Some Oldtimers are through the Alphabet 2 times !!

So here is an example : My Kennel name is "vom Sankt Martiner Tal" and I do have my 5th litter, so all these Pups first name will start with an "E". I will keep an male out of this litter, and my wife insists that his name will be Elvis !!! So his official name on the Pedigree (Pink Papers), and when entered in trials or show in the future will be : " Elvis vom Sankt Martiner Tal ". If now a Puppy buyer chooses a name starting with an "E" and lets me know BEFORE I fill out the litter registartion form, I will put that name in, otherwise I pick one.

How you call your dog, is totally up to you, the dog wont care.

When I send a Pup to the US, and the Pup was bought before I tatooed the Pup and send in the Litterregistration form to the SV, I will also put on there the new Owner of the Pup. This way the SV will allready register the owner change and put that on the last page of the Pedigree. I will sign the last page as the seller & the reciever as the buyer. If the Pup is sold after I recieved the Pedigree, I as the seller have to inform the SV of the owner change.

If the buyer needs a "Bescheinigung" from the SV in order to register with AKC, I do help with the process, but its actually not very hard. You could contact Sabine Leib at the SV by e-mail, and she will guide you through it.

Sorry cant help you with the Issue, that the Bescheinigung has the first owner on there, I dont know exactly how the AKC handels that. Worst case you would have to get a new one from the SV.

Make sure that YOUR name is on the last page of the Pedigree, her is a crude translation of the top of the last page :

OWNERSHIP CHANGE (to be filled out immediatly when dog is transfered) - The ownershipchange of a dog is, if not allredy known to the "Zuchtbuchamt" (SV) through the Litter registration Form, to be immediately advertised to the SV, including the new owners full adress.

Beneath that it is :

Date           Owner (with Adress)               Signature of Seller                      Signature of Buyer

Hope this helped a little.

Best Regards, and nice looking female.

Ulli

You are legally the owner of the dog.  You will get your AKC registration, don't worry.

On the registration for a foreign dog application, there are places for "First USA owner", and "Second USA owner".  Call the AKC registration department, and they can answer your questions on this one.  You might not need another beschenigung.

IF you DO need an AKC Beschenigung, this is what you do, step by step:

A)   A complete copy of the SV registration--- notarized.
B)  A copy of the AKC Foreign Dog Registration Application. You need to have
completed it, and have the address of the first USA owner on it.
C)  Your credit card information on a letter.  It should read something like:

Your full address and phone number at the top of the letter.

Dear Frau Leib,

Please send me a beschinigung for this dog.  Her registration number is:   Her name is:  Her date of birth is:  My credit card number is:

Sincerely,

Signature

Typed name.

(If you do not receive the beschinigung within 3 weeks from the SV, email Frau Leib! It's probably
lost!)

Send it to:

Verein für Deutsche Shäferhunde (s.V)
Steinerne Furt 71
86167 Augsburg, Germany

attention:  Frau Leib.

Frau Leib's email address for questions and if your beschingung does not arrive within three weeks, you need to inquire:  akc@schaeferhunde.de

You will need this to get your AKC registration for your dog imported from Germany:

A)  Copy of the foreign dog registration.
B) The AKC foreign dog registration application completed.  You are the second USA owner, you need the first USA owner's address on it and signature.
C)The Beschenigung.
D) Pictures of the dog standing: right side, left side, and full frontal view.
Actually, I think they don't require that you send in both sides now.  Just one.  I still do it that way anyway...what can it hurt?

Make copies of everything you send out.  I've had my beschinigung was lost by the USA mail, my information misplaced by the SV, and I've had the AKC lose ALL of my paperwork--- with the beschiningung...it had to be recreated, which they were very nice about and it was quickly done...but I did not keep copies of everything befor
