Has anyone notice different colors (black/tan, sloid black, sables) shedding more or less. I know that some long coats don't shed as much. Let me know if you guys have noticed a pattern with shedding and different color dogs, or if its purely an individual dog to dog thing. Just curious
Thanks

Not so much color but thickness of coat and most sables have thick coats. Only had 1 sable with a thin coat/not as much undercoat. Oh and my females shed more than males.

I had a sable long coat that shed very little. I now have a black/red and a solid black. My black/red boy sheds constantly and a lot. My black sheds very little and his coat is very shiny and sleek, the guard hairs seem to be more coarse.

My intact boy is black and tan and sheds alot, and all year long.

I think long hairs don't shed as much because they have less undercoat if any and that is what is always falling out in my dogs. The course outter coat sheds less durring the year and comes out in females after season, breeding and spring, males come spring only. I like dogs with less coat maintance wise butthe fuller coats look better, I just couldn't hack it in my home day in and day out.

Long coats don't shed that much. Any dog with a thich coat will shed less (at least that is my experience) Black and tan that I owned always shed a lot. Hope this helps, using olewa carrots helped lower the sheding.

I've never heard of the Olewo carrots. I've tried grain free and have always gave him more omegas. Right now I have Wild Alaskan salmon oil. I might have to look into them.
Thanks

I've noted that my sables shed more than the black/tans or black.

My sable intact male sheds less than my previous GSDs regardless of color, BUT this is the first dog I have fed RAW, and I think that, along with genetics, maybe has more to do with it than coat color? I know there are those among us who have been feeding RAW for generations now. I wonder if they notice a difference based on color alone?

Your onto something Sue. Food has allot to do with it. The female I have that sheds like crazy is on the poorest food I feed. The dogs on the better feed "usually" shed less, but Baden's sable sister was the exception to that rule. Even on Orijen and RAW she was blowing everywhere.
When on the Diamond Bax shed so much it was insane, now we have her on Chicken Soup and she is much better.
