Actaully I am feeding my gsd Pedigree Proffessional range/ I do not weigh the food when I feed him, so maybe it maybe about a kilo or so. Since long it's being going on that he sometimes quits or only eats half of the food provided. He is 18 months. Also due to this habit he looks lean upto that I do not show him to my guests. He had nice bones and had body volume healthy then I bought him at 3 months. I cannot provide him homemade except cows milk or curd. I also exercise him like he roams around in m farm for about 2 hours also runs around with my rott. of his age. Recently I have started since 3 days with a liver tonic. Has been dewormed regularly. Has no tick flea problem. I also give him time per day by grooming him for half an hour which he likes and sits calmly. ARE GSD SUCH PICKY ALWAYS WHEN THEY GROW AND ALSO AFTER WHAT AGE DO THEY START EATING NORMALLY ? I had a english pointer recently and never had such stupid problems like not eating and such. So now you people out there tell me what is that I am lacking in preparing this young fellow ?

You just have to change his diet until you find the right one.  Pedigree is like junk food for a dog, even if it claims to be "Professional" grade.  Would you feed McDonald's to your kids (assuming you have any) every day?  Buy the smaller size bags of large breed dog food and add some to his Pedigree every day to see if he likes the new stuff.  We give our 9 mo female about 32-40 oz a day, give or take.  Some days she's starving and eats every kibble, other days she leaves some in the bowl.  We also feed her twice a day (one scoop=16 oz cup) and take her bowl away when she's done.  Now that she knows she won't have a bowlful of food to pick over all day, she eats all of what is put in front of her.  Those food dispensers are a horrible idea, especially when you want to reinforce your position as alpha male/female to your dogs.  Your dog has to know that you provide food, and can take it away as well, so they have no option to be picky about what they eat.

Pedigree is actually a pretty good grade of dog food.  It is manufactured in the US and does not have any Chinese ingredients.   I feed canned Pedigree to weaning puppies just for that safety reason.

Those who feed "homemade" food must measure and calculate their ingredients well to make sure the dog is receiving his daily requirements.   Not especially easy.

Your dog may not decide to eat his dog food because puppies also imprint on flavors of food.  When you are feeding a balanced ration, you should not be adding other things to the food EXCEPT you can provide about 25% meat with kibble and not screw up the mineral balances.

So, a nice talk with your veterinarian  might help with some answers.   The leanness may also just be his stage of growth or he may have some teeth issues or something else going on.

To help you calculate what your dog needs to eat, the NRC (National Research Council) publishes dietary requirements for animals and humans.  You might be able to find this on line.

Good luck!
