I was thinking about getting a new training vest. I was talking to a friend of mine and he owns a tactical supply company, he suggested a tactical vest and a couple drop pouches, [one for bait, the other for a toy] to use as a training vest. I went and looked today, and it was cheaper for me to buy the vest than to buy and have a standard leerburg vest shipped. Can I get some feedback on using this vest? Maybe pros and cons?

first let me say that i dont believe in training vest.  just another way to try and trick the dog into thinking you have a toy or  food or some other reward.   at the nationals this year they were not allowed on the field.  who knows how long before they are not allowed at regional events and eventually local trials.

if you must find the need for one there is a real easy and cheap way to do it.  go to the local hunting store(bass pro shop, cabelas, etc)  and get a hunting vest.  they have many pockets (normally for shells, birds, etc).  it doesnt take much to modify one if you need to.  they usually come in several colors, including the wonderful camo look.

Training vests were not allowed at the Northeastern regionals this year either.

A tactical vest should be fine if it is comfortable and you like it. Use what ever you like. I would stay away from the ball drop vest if your a girl- you might loose one of your twins....LOL

I have used a bird hunting vest & a dog vest. I like all the pockets to keep my gear in. However the hunting vest is heavy and the dog training vest doesn't breath very well. My all time favorite is an old 100% cotton sweatshirt with a big kangaroo pocket in the front. I will be looking on line for more of these (they have them in long sleeve & short sleeve finding 100% cotton is difficult though). I also have a wind breaker with a kangaroo pocket and it looks sporty enough to trial in.

I am convinced that my dog is convinced that I can pull toys out of thin air  so trialing & training in any number of jackets or vest or sweat shirts doesn't matter one bit to me- I use some thing different almost every session.

Besides many national competitiors are now using their old numbers and tagging on pouches on the inside so the dog is training with the trial type numbers and being rewarded from them. People will always find subtle ways to ummm....improve their scores.....

Hahahaha, I am a girl, and I already have the problem you speak of. The pinching is the worst. I am always finding a new bruise. Why are vests not allowed in the Regionals, or Nationals?

at nationals in texas they found away around this also.   your number was a stick on that you had to put on your back.  each person was given 3, one for each day.   take a look at DVG nationals.  everyone wears similar clothing.
