For those of you that fallow big names studs, I have a question. What dose Fero V Zeuterner Himmelreich brings to a table. I notice that there are a lot of people that love it or hate it. I would like your opinion especialy from those that have him in your dog pedigree. Thanks for all you help.

I have dogs that are linbred on Fero through Troll vd bosen Nachbarschaft. I like to see Troll in a pedigree, I think that he brings some hardness and some real fight.  I know a few of them are not obedience superstars, mine all tend to want to think for themselves and obedience is just too tame for them.  I have an Ellex Salztalblick daughter that gets her Fero through Rocky Zingelgarten and I love everything about her.  I know that there are other dogs in her pedigree that may account for her amazing personality and over the top drive, but it is so similar to the linebred dogs that I have to think it is, at the very least, a strong factor.

The other thing to keep in mind is that Fero is so far back on paper for most dogs that it is the amazing progeny that continue the Fero craze.  Not only was he a great dog, his sons have continued to compete and produce.  The proof I would offer is (among many) Troll, Timmy, Rocky...

When you look at the next generations you get great dogs like Ellex and Yoschy.  And on and on.  Look at the pedigrees of the top BSP dogs and in most of them you will find Fero.  I think it says something about him that even long after he left us, his bloodline is still so well represented.  Gotta be something to that.

That is very true. I have fero in both of my females, One is through Troll and the other one through Boris and I have to say they both quite difference. The one that brings Fero through Troll is my perfect family dog, I love her to death. The new one well that is different story. More fight in that one. I am still learing as much as I can about her and the dog in her pedigreess she is a dog that keeps me puzzle. I really like Fero in a background on all my dog. THey have something to offer for sure.

Sorry, looking at it better, Rocky is a Fero grandson not son.  The point is the same though,  Fero is a great dog to have in your pedigree.

I agree, but I did notice something that if fero is brought in throug dam it brings calm and very laid back dogs, while if fero is brought through sire it tends to make harder more dominant dogs how many people notice that or have experience with both?

My boy's bred 5,5,4-5,4,5 on Fero (and 3 - 3,4 in Yoschy).

We're all aware of working ability through these lines, but a large majority of the best hip producers ALSO come through Fero lines, despite his status as a fast normal.  He may not have improved the lines himself (reflecting in his rather average ZW rating), but who he was bred to made a definite impact thereon.

This list below is what I believe to be a fair estimate of the best all-time hip producers (that have produced 150+ progeny) , factoring in an adjustment for the progeny NOT xrayed as well.  The blue backfill covering ~28% of the table is from Fero lines  (sire-side over the dog's name / dam-side over the Est.BV).  The other colors are different bloodlines, and several of non-colored names are showline blood.

Incidently, many of the names below are also well known in the working arena.

His actual record, below, shows that only about half of his progeny were xrayed, and of that, only about half received a1 hip status.

I had a Fero son for many years and he was one of the most striking dogs I have ever had the pleasure to have!  He was OFA excellent and had incredible protection work and was a pretty tough dog when he was younger....he did mellow and was a pussy cat in his older years.
