GARD,
Thank you for sharing! I am getting my first Mali puppy very soon for competition! I am becoming of the opinion that the Mali is the dog to have if you want to be on the podium in DVG and in the AWDF.
That was a great read!

Is the Dog Sport in the USA on the decline that would be interesting to know,
There are no Mals in the Two Clubs that i train with, although a couple of English men bring two Mals over to train with us at our Clubs about three times a year

I am a diehard GSD lover, but . . . I had an interesting chat with a county sheriff recently. He had an outstanding dual-purpose Malinois that he was very happy with. Ten years ago, all of the sheriff department's 10 K-9s were GSDs. Now 8 are Malinois and only 2 are GSDs. The GSDs will be replaced with Malinois when they retire. Why did this happen? They could not get healthy, sound GSDs who could do real-world work like the old-style GSDs. The Mals can do it. He also noted that the hyper behavior that eliminated Mals for real-world work has been bred out of the working lines that police use. Real-world working ability is apparently being bred out of a lot of GSD lines. His department will no longer even consider buying a GSD. His experience is not unusual. What a catastrophe for the breed!

To be honest I think mals are what GSD used to be. I think i def awesome dog to get into. Actually I am planing to do that next time around. What I really would want is GSDxMal cross I heared a good things from people that tried it and own it, some of them that been into dogs quite a long time, die hard GSD and Mali fans said that the cross was the best thing ever. Thanks for sharing, how is your mali doing "pandora"? Any new videos?

The Military are using Mal's & have their own breeding program now. They do a little training 8 weeks to 11 or 12 weeks and then foster the pups out until they get them back around 7 months to finish their training.

Very interesting article GARD, thanks for posting. Belonging to a DVG club I do still see a variety of breeds worked. It will be interesting to see the comppetition and results at the up coming Players 2009 International. Perhaps the results from this will add needed information as it is open to all breeds from all countries with a qualifying score of 270 or higher.

The only reason the Mals are still very good and close to the breed standard is because not too many stuipd people breeding them.but as soon as they become populer and every one wants them watch out malis will suffer like Gsd.in the end it is stupid humans who mess things up.just like the shepherd breed has been messed around,Malis are not too far behind .it is only matter of time.have a nice one.

Very true. It would be hard to find one thing that we humans didn't f*ck it up :)
