I am wondering what you all use to cover your chain link kennels? I have a 10X10 run but now with the winter weather, it definately needs a cover. TIA

I used to use a lorry/truck tarpaulin(sp) worked great and in the summer we used it as a water slide....

AIR,
It depend's on how much wind you have to deal with, how much snow you expect to have.
It take's more than a tarp and a few board's. I too would like to have a roof over my 10X10's but short of building something I know of no easy way to do it.
I settle for dog house's in the 10X10's and straw for mud in wet weather since mine are on earth and not concrete.
You could build using the panel's with a post frame structure but it would not be cheap.
I dunno.
Moon's.

Sink 4x4s at the corners, put up a few beams and cover with tin

Cabelas sells a very nice 10 x 10 roof for those types of kennels. 42-62 dollars
Lowes sells a kit. This is what I used at one point before my upgrading. It comes with the part to make a pitch in the center so the snow/rain doesn't rip it as it would if you just used a tarp and some tie downs.

Hope it helps,

We made a roof for ours using a couple of 2x4.s some 1x4's and sheet metal (the wavy stuff that comes in panels) We have quite a bit of wind here and haven't had any problems. Just make sure you have enough overhang so the water doesn't drain back into the kennel.

The kit's are over priced crap.
Tarp's won't last much more than one season, and won't carry a snow load.
If the wind get's strong enough it can pick up the whole kennel if the tarps tied to it, like a sail.
Flat roofs made of tin can collapse under the load of a good snow and could crush the kennel.
It really depend's on where you live.
alaman is right, sink some post's and frame a roof for sheet metal.
Anything worth doing is worth doing right.

Ya know.....I have always liked the thought of using one of those canvas car port type deals with sides. They are pitched like a roof so HOPEFULLY snow would slide off of it and you can put the sides up in the summer and down in the winter....but (my pet peve!!!) IF you put a dog house out there, for the love of God!, don't face the door towards the NORTH WIND!!!!!!! I see this all the time and it just pisses me off! People have NO COMMON sense! Buy a dog house and face the door right into the north wind......that does not work! STUPID PEOPLE!

We built a 2x4 peaked frame over the kennels, then put wire over that then heavy tarps stapled down over that. has worked great in the wind, rain and snow and we get lots of snow up here in maine. This is the 3rd winter we've had them up and so far so good. We also tarp the back and side and it keeps out all the snow.
inexpensive to do and I cant get taxed on them.
