My female has a fungal infection that doesnt seem to be going away with medicine like Lamisil. So the vet put her on anti biotics called Klaracid. Its been two days since shes been on Klaracid and she has been passing un digested raw meat through her stool. Her stool is also very runny. Should i give her the raw diet while shes on anti biotics? I decided switched to cooked lamb and rice for a few day and she rejected the cooked food. So what should i do? Klaracid is supposed to be a very strong anti biotic, is it a little too much for a fungal infection? Plus the infection is minor and only has a few red spots on her belly region.

aristianM,I have had oppurtunity to learn a bit about this from a new Vet on another board and she spoke about this and said that when a dog is on antibiotics the dog should NOT be on raw food.It has something to do with the bacteria used for digestion being killed by the medicine.Maybe you can try some chicken or beef instead of cooked lamb.Add a teaspoon of oil and you should be ok for the 10 or so days that she will be on the meds.If you go longer than that ,I would buy some HUMANE GRADE bone meal  NOT the one they use for plants and stuff.Solid gold makes one and the instructions should be on the label OR you could use dried out egg shells and grind them in a coffee grinder. If you go that route let me know and i will help you with the amounts.Good luck and hopefully your girl will heal fast and be ok.Ciao

domenic, interesting point.  i haven't had to give antibiotics to my 2 guys (knock on wood), but the 2 rescues were on 10 days of a strong antibiotic (dio-something?) as a precaution for kennel cough, and i switched them to raw when i picked them up.   stools were a little loose at first, but then everything was normal.

i also gave them pumpkin (for the loose stools), and yogurt (because of the antibiotic).

aristianm, if you decide to switch to cooked food, i would give her a few tablespoons of fat free plain yogurt once a day (not at the same time/meal as when you give her the antibiotic).  stonyfield farm works well for us.

also, you can wipe down the red areas with apple cider vinegar (braggs) or tea tree oil.  i've used these on anything and everything with much success.

Aristian, Tea tree oil is what I used on Josh's spotty belly and they went without anti biotics!  Try Tea tree oil, sometimes Vets dish out anti biotics too readily.

Domenic thats what i thought. I will be giving her boiled beef and rice for a few days. For calcium I am giving her calcium supplements. She is also get 250ml of yoghurt everyday. The vet also told me to give her this product called Ensure Plus. Misbeeb that is something i never thought about. Thanks for reminding me of tea tree oil. I have some at home. As for the ACV, we dont get braggs here. Only American garden and Heinz. =[ Thanks for replying guys, I appreciate your help! =]

I agree with "missbeeb". Use a topical like Tea Tree oil/witchhazel/water mix (in a pint spray bottle fill half w/water half w/witchhazel and then add 1 teaspoon of Tea Tree oil). If you have to use antibiotics on a raw fed dog, just use more "pro-biotics"  (many brands) which IS the good bacteria that they need and give them as far removed time wise from the antibiotics.

Another question I wanted to ask you. My dog has an ear infection to. A friend told me to clean the ears with a vinegar and water solution. So i got some cotton balls and dipped them into vinegar, squeezed them to drain off the excess vinegar. When i started cleaning the ears a few tiny drops of vinegar went into her ear canal. She started running around and kept shaking her head. I hope this wont lead to serious damage! :(

aristianM,do yourself and your dog a favour and stop getting advise from NON medically qualified people PLEASE.For an ear infection that more than likely has yeast and inflamation you use a proper medicine such as Ottomax which has an antiinflamatory, and yeast killer and antobiotic in it.Please dont take this the wrong way as it is NOT ment as an insult or anything.

Forgot to mention that there are also a couple other medications as well as the Ottomax if for some reason that one is not available.
