The following is information from a farmer who grows and packages
carrots for IGA, METRO, LOBLAWS, etc.         The small cocktail (baby)
carrots you buy in small plastic bags are made using the larger crooked
or
deformed carrots which are put through a machine which cuts and shapes
them into cocktail carrots. Most people probably know this already. What
0Ayou may not know and should know is the following: - once the carrots
are
cut and shaped into cocktail carrots they are dipped in a solution of
water and chlorine in order to preserve them (this is the same chlorine
used in your pool) since they do not have their skin or natural
protective
covering, they give them a higher dose of chlorine.        You will
notice
that once you keep these carrots in your refrigeratorfor a few days, a
white covering will form on the carrots, this is the chlorine which
resurfaces. At what cost do we put our health at risk to have
esthetically
pleasing vegetables which are practically plastic?         We do hope
that
this information can be passed on to as many people as possible in the
hopes of informing them where these carrots come from and how they are
processed. Chlorine is a very well known carcinogen.

Don't always believe what you read online!

Many veggies are preserved, the chlorine has nothing to do with the carrots being white.... read the snopes story!

I should add that while chlorine (in sufficient amounts) will kill a human very dead, very quickly, it does volatilize and disappear quickly once it is exposed to air. Am I concerned? No, I am not. I do not eat many of these carrots and feed but a few to my dogs. I tend to have much more concern about the contagious diseases of people who wander around the supermarket than I do about anything like this. So, even if a tiny bit of chlorine is sprayed on the peeled carrots, I do not consider this any more of a threat than a drink of water from a municipal tap or a dip in someone's swimming pool.

Regards.

There is so much coming out, to the point of being flooded with bad dog food, bad Meds, bad food. Very frustrating. I did not do well in science, thru me out of the class (I threw up alot, just from pictures). No clue what is good and what is not. so I just pass along the info. No wonder we get cancer if you add it all up.
